Chapter 8. A Chilling Revelation

Biboy knew, even before he took a hit, that he couldn't stay any longer at his sister's place. He knew that the effects of the illegal substance would amplify whatever emotions he experienced, and the first emotion he might feel was anger, anger towards his brother-in-law, who had hurt his sister. He had to leave and return to his old home with his mother and other siblings.

After a week of staying with his mother and siblings, things started to get messy again. He stopped coming home regularly, staying out longer. This time, he and Gray found a hideout at the pier, where abandoned container vans were piled up. They managed to occupy one of them, only to discover that they weren't the only ones there. Homeless people had also taken refuge in the area, as the management of North Harbor Pier was not strict.

For Biboy and Gray, it was the perfect hideout - an easy place to blend in. No one, not even their relatives, would suspect they were there, nor would anyone bother looking in such a dangerous place, especially an outsider with no business there. Drugs were rampant, along with other immoral activities, right under the government's nose.

Biboy spiraled further downward.

He had now fully embraced the life of a homeless man and resorted to making money through illegal means. Months passed, but his mother never stopped searching for him. To her, there was still hope for her son - even if it was just a sliver of hope. Meanwhile, Biboy continued breaking the law, this time with purpose. He needed money to sustain his chemical romance - his addiction.

Biboy's path grew even darker. He met other criminals and occasionally joined them in their activities. Then, one day, he encountered a man known as "The Godfather." This man was different from the rest - he wasn't just any criminal; he was what they called a hardened criminal. He had been in and out of prison, had a body count to his name, and was known as a stone-cold killer. He was feared by many.

The Godfather, Gray, and Biboy formed a team - a trio that, in their minds, was invincible. They knew each other's capabilities, and for Biboy, having a ruthless killer on his side made him feel untouchable.

Together, they carried out their so-called "night jobs" - the perfect time to commit crimes under the cover of darkness. Pity those who crossed their path, hoping things wouldn't escalate to the point where a life had to be taken.

They continued to terrorize their community, even moving to different areas to confuse the police, breaking their patterns to avoid getting caught.

One day, The Godfather grew bored. He discovered that Biboy wasn't really homeless he had a home nearby. Seeing an opportunity, he ordered Biboy to go back and steal something from his house while they lay low, waiting for the heat to die down.

Biboy obeyed without question, like a blind man following orders. When he returned home, his mother was overwhelmed with emotion-tears streamed down her face as she embraced him, both heartbroken and overjoyed to see her son again. Little did she know that Biboy had come back only to steal.

He stayed for only half a day. Before leaving, he successfully took something precious-a gold necklace that his mother had given to his older sister, a treasured souvenir from her time working abroad.

The Godfather was pleased. He knew he had Biboy wrapped around his finger, a pawn he could manipulate at will.

Now that the relationship between Biboy and The Godfather was established and growing stronger, they had also made a lot of enemies. Local hunters who despised their kind, along with vigilante groups, were on the move, looking for their heads. The situation was now out of hand, and this time, death was imminent due to these so-called vigilantes. Worse still, they had no clue about their enemies' identities.

Despite this, The Godfather continued to involve Biboy in all his activities, fearless because he knew he had a scapegoat when things went south. Meanwhile, Biboy had yet to realize this, blinded by his unwavering loyalty.

One night, The Godfather had a specific target in mind, and this time, he was bringing Gray along as well. The three of them were about to embark on a mission. As The Godfather laid out his plan, it became clear that it involved killing - something Biboy was not prepared for.

The Godfather continued explaining the details, but Biboy could no longer ignore the uneasiness creeping up inside him. Finally, he asked, Why?

It turned out that this mission was personal.

Their target was the reason The Godfather had spent ten years in prison. This had likely been on his mind even before he got out - he had planned this for years, and now, the time had come.

Biboy started feeling increasingly uneasy. Something wasn't right. He kept trying to ignore the chilling sensation running through him, but when The Godfather revealed the final step, Biboy had to be the one to do the deed he froze.

The target would likely recognize The Godfather, which could compromise the entire plan.

That left Biboy with no choice but to carry it out. But something inside him refused. The chilling feeling didn't stop. Even under the influence of illegal substances, he felt weak. A shiver ran down his spine, and suddenly, a realization struck him - a moment of clarity.

He couldn't do it.

His conscience screamed at him: He wasn't a bad person. In that instant, he knew - this was beyond him. This was not who he was.

Biboy knew he couldn't say no to The Godfather, though he wasn't entirely sure why. Maybe it was fear - fear that if he refused, The Godfather and Gray would turn against him.

Worse, since he already knew the plan, The Godfather might suspect that Biboy would snitch on him in the future.

He had no choice but to play along.

He had to pretend he was fully on board with the plan while being extremely careful not to raise suspicion. But deep down, he knew he had to do something.

They arrived at the target's house, ready to execute the plan.

The goal was to make the attack look like a robbery to mislead the police. The Godfather took his position as the lookout while Biboy and Gray prepared to break in.

In Biboy's mind, there was only one way out - to get caught by the police. That was the only way he could avoid suspicion from The Godfather while also stopping what was about to happen.

But he had to act fast Gray was already about to jump over the fence.

In a desperate attempt, Biboy deliberately pulled the barbed wire, hoping to snag Gray's pants or shirt. Since it was dark, Gray couldn't see clearly. His clothes got tangled in the wire, and he lost his balance, crashing to the ground with a loud thud - a noise loud enough to wake the target and the neighbors.

They ran away, and the mission was canceled.

The Godfather was furious he had waited a long time for this moment and now probably regretted sending kids to do a man's job. He partly blamed himself for the failure, leaving him no choice but to put his mission on hold.

Biboy felt relieved, but now, the only thing on his mind was how to get out.

He planned to talk to Gray first, knowing he was more approachable though unpredictable at times. However, Biboy had no idea that Gray was already suspicious.

Gray had a gut feeling that Biboy was behind the barbed wire incident, and his suspicion was confirmed when Biboy told him he wanted out.

Gray immediately threatened to tell The Godfather what he had discovered. But at that moment, something unexpected happened Biboy wasn't afraid. For the first time, he felt at peace with whatever was about to come.

To him, it was better to be hurt or even die than to take another person's life.

Later that night, Biboy was ready to face The Godfather's wrath. Whatever happened, he was okay with it he deserved it.

The only thing on his mind was that he wished he had more time to tell his mother he was sorry. Sorry for being the black sheep. Sorry for hurting her and the rest of the family.

He knew The Godfather could appear anywhere, and hiding was pointless. If Gray told him what had happened and Biboy ran away, The Godfather might set his sights on his family. That was something Biboy could never allow.

Later that night, shocking news reached Gray and Biboy about The Godfather he had been found floating lifeless in the ocean near the pier. His hands were tied, and his face was covered with duct tape.

It was an execution a salvage.

Who did it? No one knew. Maybe the vigilantes had finally caught up with him, or perhaps it was the work of police scalawag.
