A man received a text from a strange number. When he opened it, his eyes welled with tears. The message was from his deceased wife, claiming she had survived the crash and sent the address where she was staying. Something felt wrong, but by the next day, he couldn’t ignore it any longer.
He drove to an old house in the middle of nowhere and parked. Standing at the door, he hesitated, staring at the rusted knocker. Could this really be true?
His wife had fallen asleep at the wheel and driven off a cliff. The wreckage was unreachable, and no body was ever recovered. After three days with no sign of her, she was declared dead. The funeral two days earlier had felt hollow, with no body and no coffin.
There was a bang on the door as he knocked, against his better judgement. Nothing happened. As he started to walk away, dejected, the door swung open and his wife was standing there.
He screamed, for in place of her eyes were two small stones, and instead of a mouth she had a bleeding gash from ear to ear. He tried to run, but could not control his limbs as he walked inside. The soulless eyes smiled. “Now we will be together forever!”
Now and then, some unlucky soul knocks on the door on a dare. They step inside in a trance when the door creaks open, and no one ever sees them again.
