Prologue
In a quiet, snow-covered village, a boy named Riku is abandoned by his parents at five. Left in the hands of a distant relative who saw him as a burden, Riku grows up in a world that seems to conspire against him. Misfortune follows him like a shadow—if something can go wrong, it inevitably does.
With dark, somber eyes that mirror his life’s struggles, Riku becomes a silent observer of the world’s cruelty. People misinterpret his quiet nature as hostility, and despite his selfless acts, he receives no gratitude. His only friend is a stray black cat he names Kuro, who seems to understand his pain.
Act 1: The Boy and His Burdens
At school, Riku is an outcast. Rumors swirl about him being cursed, and his classmates avoid him. Yet, he is brilliant in his studies and works tirelessly after school, taking odd jobs to support himself and his cat. Despite his struggles, Riku never hesitates to help others, whether it’s picking up a fallen book or sharing his lunch with a hungry classmate. But his deeds are either ignored or misunderstood.
Riku harbors feelings for a kind-hearted girl named Aiko. Aiko is cheerful and bright, bringing warmth wherever she goes. Though she occasionally talks to Riku, it’s usually to tease him lightly, unaware of the depth of his feelings or his hardships. Her jokes often sting, but Riku treasures every moment she acknowledges him.
Act 2: The Storm Within
As Riku quietly endures, a new student, Taro, arrives. Taro is charismatic but harbors a dark side. He sees Riku as an easy target and begins tormenting him, making Riku’s life even harder. Taro’s charm blinds others to his cruel nature, and Riku’s attempts to stand up for himself only make things worse.
One day, Taro discovers Riku’s feelings for Aiko and uses it to humiliate him in front of the entire class. Aiko laughs along, thinking it’s a harmless joke, but Riku’s heart shatters. That night, he confides in Kuro, the only being who truly understands him.
Act 3: A Catastrophic Revelation
A sudden disaster strikes the school—a massive fire breaks out during a festival. Chaos ensues as students and teachers panic. Taro reveals his true colors, abandoning his classmates to save himself. Amid the chaos, Riku springs into action, guiding students to safety and risking his life to save Aiko, trapped under debris.
Despite his efforts, the fire grows uncontrollably. Realizing the only way to save everyone is to sacrifice himself, Riku makes a final decision. He instructs Kuro to lead the rescuers to the survivors and plunges into the inferno to disable a failing gas line, preventing a massive explosion.
Act 4: The Truth Unveiled
The next morning, the fire is extinguished, and everyone is safe—except for Riku, who is found lifeless amidst the ruins. Kuro sits silently by his side, refusing to leave. As the survivors recount the events, they finally understand the extent of Riku’s suffering and sacrifices. Devastated, Aiko recalls every time Riku helped her and the cruel jokes she made, realizing she was his light in a world of darkness.
Taro’s lies are exposed, and he is ostracized. The school holds a memorial for Riku, honoring him as a hero. Aiko writes a heartfelt letter, placing it at his grave, promising to live a better life in his memory.
Epilogue
Kuro becomes a silent guardian of the school, often found sitting near Riku’s grave. The students who once mocked Riku now tell stories of his courage and kindness. Though he’s gone, his sacrifice leaves an indelible mark, inspiring others to be kinder and more understanding.
And in the quiet corners of the schoolyard, some swear they see a boy with dark eyes and a black cat, watching over them from the shadows.
