Maybe in another world
“Do you still remember the time that you had a crush on me?”
“I still remember everything. All the late nights talk and all about our dreams.”
“I miss us, the old innocent us.”
In the city of rivers and creeks, a mountain of memories abounds where the lovers once stood.
They were always together, but they were too young to realize. Remains of the past where broken soul lies, the wall that they once built had been turned into ashes as their dreams crushes, Fate really is cruel.
But no, we weren’t made for each other, we were just destined to meet but not to be.
I spoke in hushed tones. “Time flies, butterfly dies. You now have your own family”
In my mind, I wish that you were mine if only we had time. We were too young back then to understand what really love meant. Scared to express what I truly felt for you. Was it the wrong time? Or is it just that you weren’t made for mine.
“I’m a victim of my past, I was lost in the dark until he arrived and saved me from falling in love with it."
I could barely hear her then she added. “I thought it was you, I wish that it was you, I really do.”
If I had made my move and shoot my shot, it would’ve been ended differently. Maybe my definition of love was too unrealistic or maybe I wasn’t really ready to love and to be loved at all. Too many maybe’s and what if’s that’s going in my mind.
I replied in a gentle tone. “You moved away before I could even see you, I tried finding you but I am just a boy what can I do?”
“I moved away in desperation to forget the humiliation because you know we lived in a society where they base your dignity in your virginity” she said pessimistically.
My tears start rushing out as I understand what she has been through, years of pain she’ll carry permanently in vain. If I’m only by her side at that time maybe I could have mended her broken soul.
The world is not cruel it’s the people in it. But I couldn’t do anything, communication cut off. All I could do is pray and hope.
I asked. “Do you believe in parallel universe? A different reality that exists at the same time”
She nodded as I continue talking.
“In that world, we were together as a couple. We’d be going out on dates and love each other until we ran out of breathe”
“I wish it were true” she replied.
We both looked at the moon imagined if we ended up together. We can’t do anything but only to imagine.
Our hearts are both owned. Hers was with the guy that she had met in her school and mine was owned by me, loving myself better than before”
After that conversation, we walked away and headed where we truly belong.
“A heart that was once owned for years by a fleeting smile, I turned around and became captivated. Back in those days, I always thought of you.”
