BEEP BEEP BEEP
“Shut up!”
BEEP BEEP BEEP
“I’m telling you, SHUT UP!”
BEEP BEEP BEEP
Eyes red, wide open, you jolt upright. An alarm. You turn to your right- no, left…? Does it matter? You face the alarm clock that’s-
BEEP BEEP BEEP
-and with one swift motion, you grab and throw the alarm clock, and it goes-
BEEP BEEP BEEP
-flying across the room.
It shatters into a few dozen little pieces. Sweet blissful silence. Unfortunately for you, that doesn’t mean you can get back to sleep. Your rage and anger made sure of that. So, you shift yourself, sitting on the side of your bed, in nothing but your underwear. Whatever. You needed to get up, anyway. The alarm did its job. It’s too bad it had to die for it.
You stand up. Shuffling over to the pile of alarm clock guts, you pick up the pieces. You begin to wonder what this alarm clock did to make you so angry. Is it because you didn’t get enough sleep because you procrastinated on going to bed last night? That’s preposterous, no one would be such a fool! And yet, you feel like such a fool…
The alarm clock guts get dumped into the trash. You need to get yourself presentable today, you have important business to attend to! You grab a change of clothes from your dresser: a pair of socks, a pair of pants, a button-down shirt, and underwear. You’re glad you don’t have to take much time choosing your wardrobe. You aren’t a picky person, and you have nothing to prove to anyone. You walk to the bathroom that’s attached to your bedroom.
What will it be this morning? It is morning, right? Somehow, you didn’t get a good look at your alarm clock to be able to catch the time. Surely, the wall caught it for you. No matter, late or early, your hygiene comes first. You strip out of your only article of clothing and step into the shower. You adjust the dials to your preferred temperature, and you turn the water on. Why do you need to adjust it? You’re the only one that uses it. Does your preferred temperature change on a daily basis? Whatever, you say. So, you clean yourself. With your soap. And your washcloth.
As you dry yourself off after you’ve cleaned yourself in your shower, you laugh to yourself. Why do I even need to take a shower? I’m not going anywhere today. I have no plans, you think to yourself. That’s right, isn’t it? You don’t have any plans today. Your important business is you sitting at your desk, in front of your computer. So why bother wasting what precious little clean water this planet has? You don’t know, you say. You just wanted to be clean. You get dressed.
You walk over to your computer desk and sit down. You turn on your computer. You open your preferred website, or your preferred video games platform, or your preferred whatever it is you do on there. And you stare at your screen. And you stare some more. And then, will you move? No. You stare some more. You sigh. It’s like this every day. There’s no longer any joy in what you used to do, is there?
You turn off your computer. You get out of your chair. That chair was uncomfortable anyway. Your stomach grumbles, so you walk to your door and open it. You shuffle into your kitchen, which doesn't take long. Your apartment isn’t very big and within thirty seconds you arrive at your refrigerator. Opening it, you decide to grab some yogurt. Before doing so, you look at its expiration date. Expired. Well, you only live once, right? You decide to eat the yogurt, despite it being expired. You’re right, you do only live once. You only live once, yet you decide to spend all your time like this?
You set the yogurt down.
