Unsinkable
This vessel beckoned; the anchor raised, we set sail with a furious blaze.
Isle unclaimed, the sea is our mission, expenditures granted, rosters auditioned,
treading away from Jane, my submission.
Glossy water greets with an intimate glance,
we cut through her surface with our wooden slants.
My love for adventure is to blame; my mind is nothing you can even hope to tame.
The ocean rose to tear us asunder, monsters with tendrils,
black clouds and torn sail, flashes of light and all manner of thunder.
The nail in my coffin, a sea to my wreck, will we set sail on the seasick, soaked,
splintered wood of the afterdeck? On the edge of worlds we travel like comets,
plotting the land, still set in our course. With little left but our brothers,
determination where nothing can stop us.
Our ship strikes precious land; the arduous journey reaches its end.
My feet touch dry land, my shoes are on spare; I'm tired of the ice freezing the air.
My dear, I love you, but I can't be with you; I won't be leaving this immaculate place.
The cracking wood, the creaking dissonance, swallowed our second home without a trace.
Never doubt my heart or strength; I would swim to you if I had toes to feel.
I pray you find happiness and pray I find God, so I have a reason to kneel…
Pt. 2
Isolation has created loathsome company; shadows grew their own faces and excavated feet.
I begin hearing the voices I was already talking to; this betrothal to madness is complete.
I stab at the air with the slim chance of seizing the skies and being one with birds,
I could navigate my way out of my nightmare.
I clear my throat from the buildup of silence; even the words I finally hear are slurred.
I curse my own existence as much as I can; I'm emaciated to where I barely stand,
I haven't lost my faith; I'm still unsinkable!
I terrify the waves so they can tell other shores of my fable.
The sun drags the sweat from my pores to burn the cracked and torn skin.
Its sting reminds me I can still feel pain; it's better than feeling nothing.
I remember when she was my infection; now I'm filled with demons and regrets.
Fallen sailors and driftwood wash ashore,
I pretend them alive to cure the unremitting need for touch.
I ingest to survive and brace the guilt; terrible thoughts start to rush in.
What little consciousness I have left I use to alter them; I cut and carve through my tussle;
An abhorrent act too hard to believe, the wood and flesh bound to form a seaworthy vessel.
Over countless waves and deafening silence,
the land loses its dominance, and I am now at the sea's command.
Ocean dwellers and flies pick off pieces for their prize; several bones drift to the depths,
I'm too far gone to change my plan.
My only calming time, when I wake before the sun and I see the starlight.
I see them as a million eyes of God never losing track of me.
The feeling of not having control is sublime.
I can tell you're closer to me than ever, your lips again within reach.
My open eyes are towards the sky,
but I wish to reach the end of this endeavor.
There's little left of my ark, even less, it seems, of my forever.
I've lost track of time; the seagulls overhead hint that I am over.
Take me sweet water and taste of salt, tell me your secrets and the bodies you crave.
Let me be dinner for sharp teeth and apparitions, let this be the last wave.
Pt. 3
I spill my guts to the perpetual sea, the depths, with open arms,
look to me more than solemnly. I have chased a voice, the loveliest noise,
to corners of earth and death. The shallow has captured me,
the waves will stop at nothing,
I grasp at the morning sky and feel the ocean create a new breath.
These withered hands can't grip the shores,
these arms too gaunt for the daunting task. My legs give way; this body drops,
fingers breach the sandy floor. White forms my eyes,
deterioration burdens my spare bones. I am but hollow,
only God gives weight, to not let these nets tangle what's left of my form.
Mortar and brick break away from shadow; my glimpses hunt for color.
Limbs stretch, but not my own, resemblance of living, greetings of bone.
My dear Jane, I have made it home…
