Episode 1: The Letter That Changed Everything
Life was simple for me before that letter arrived. I was just an average young man, struggling to make ends meet in Lagos. I had a small shop where I repaired phones, and though I wasn't rich, I was content. That was until I received a letter from my past - one I had long buried.
The letter came from my father. Not just any father, but the man who abandoned my mother and me when I was just seven. I hadn't seen or heard from him in 15 years. And now, he was asking to see me.
I held the letter with shaking hands, reading the words over and over. He was sick. Dying, in fact. And he wanted to meet before it was too late. A flood of emotions hit me - anger, confusion, sadness. Why now? Why after all these years?
I had two choices: ignore the letter and let him fade into the past where he belonged, or go and face the man who had left me fatherless.
Episode 2: The Journey Back Home
After days of battling with my emotions, I made up my mind - I had to see him. Not because I forgave him, but because I needed closure.
I packed a small bag and boarded a bus to Benin City, the place I once called home. As the journey stretched on, memories of my childhood came flooding back - my mother struggling to feed me, nights we went to bed hungry, and the shame of being "the boy without a father."
When I finally arrived at the hospital, my heart pounded. The nurse led me to a small, dimly lit room. And there he was - thin, frail, and barely recognizable. His eyes lit up when he saw me, but I felt nothing. No love, no hate - just emptiness.
"I knew you would come," he whispered.
I didn't respond. I just stared, waiting for him to explain why he left.
Episode 3: The Truth Unfolds
I expected excuses, maybe even an apology, but what he told me shook me to my core.
"I never abandoned you," he said weakly. "I was taken."
Confused, I listened as he revealed a secret I never saw coming. He hadn't left by choice - he had been arrested on false charges, set up by his own brother over a land dispute. By the time he was released, my mother had moved on, and he couldn't find us.
Tears burned my eyes. Could this be true? Had I spent my whole life hating a man who was also a victim?
I wanted proof. I needed to know if he was lying.
Episode 4: Confronting the Past
Determined to find the truth, I sought out my uncle - the man my father accused. I hadn't seen him in years, but I remembered his house.
When I arrived, he was shocked to see me. After a few minutes of hesitation, he finally admitted it. It was true. He had framed my father out of jealousy and greed. And my mother? She never knew the full story.
Rage bubbled inside me. This man had stolen my father from me, robbed me of a normal childhood. But what could I do now? The damage was done.
I left without a word, my mind racing. My father was innocent all along.
Episode 5: The Last Goodbye
I returned to the hospital with a heavy heart. My father looked weaker than before, his breath shallow.
"I found out the truth," I whispered, sitting beside him.
A faint smile crossed his lips. "That's all I wanted? for you to know."
Tears rolled down my cheeks. For years, I had hated him for something he never did. And now, just when I found him again, I was about to lose him forever.
That night, he passed away.
Episode 6: A Letter from the Grave
Days after the burial, a nurse handed me a letter. "Your father wanted you to have this," she said.
I opened it with trembling hands.
"My son, if you're reading this, I am gone. But know that I never stopped loving you. I dreamed of the day I would see you again. I wish I had more time, but I am at peace knowing you now know the truth. Live your life free of anger, and never let hate steal your joy. Forgive, even when it's hard. I love you. - Dad."
Tears blurred my vision. For the first time, I truly forgave him.
Episode 7: Moving Forward
The pain didn't disappear overnight, but I learned to let go. I went back to Lagos, but I wasn't the same person anymore.
I no longer carried the weight of resentment. Instead, I carried my father's last words with me: "Forgive, even when it's hard."
And for the first time in my life, I felt free.
- The End.
