Jeremy is a student at Queen Mary Primary School whom anyone would call a rich kid. Both his parents were working as senior managers in a huge enterprise, and they both earned a 5-figure salary every month. Because of that, he loved to target other students in his class. Dinesh, a Chindian, who was born to a Chinese father and an Indian mother, and Gary, a poor boy whose single father worked 2 jobs to pay for both his and his brother's education, became his favorite targets whenever he became bored. He would refer to Dinesh as "half-breed" and Gary as a "dirtbag", and would often say that they "deserve each other", as he deemed Dinesh and Gary to be much lower in status than him.
One day, Jeremy's form teacher Mr Chung told the class that they would be going on a school excursion, and each student would need to pay $10. Jeremy called his rich father Dean and he was the first person to pay for the excursion. Other kids in the class paid for it too. However, Gary did not have the money like always. Jeremy wasted no time in making fun of him.
"Haha, dirtbag," he sneered. "You don't have the money to pay for the excursion? It's not surprising, though, considering how poor you are." Gary burst into tears. Dinesh could not tolerate Jeremy's unkind behaviour and stood up to him.
"Hey, that's enough," he shouted. "You know his predicament, and yet you are mocking him. Call yourself a human."
"Mind your own business, half-breed rat," Jeremy said in a threatening voice. "If you're not happy, you can skip the excursion with him."
"Gladly," Dinesh retorted. "It's not that I wanted to see you there anyway. Who knows what you might do there?" Jeremy let out a mocking laugh and walked away. Dinesh consoled Gary, who was still upset.
A day before the excursion, Mr Chung made a list of all the names who needed to be present in the morning, ready for the excursion. Jeremy was hopeful that his name would be called. However, much to his shock, his name was not on the list.
"You forgot my name," Jeremy said. Hearing thus, Mr Chung became angry.
"No, I didn't," he screamed. "Your name is not on the list."
"What do you mean? My father paid for it," Jeremy yelled, confused. No sooner had he spoken than Dean appeared. He approached Jeremy in front of the class and said, "Your teacher Mr Chung told me what you were doing to this poor kid as well as this kind Chindian kid who defended him, so I didn't pay for you to go to the excursion. I paid for them, and your mother agreed to it. As punishment, you are staying home." Dinesh and Gary cheered, while Jeremy lowered his head in shame. He had behaved unkindly towards those whom he deemed to be inferior to him, and now, he was left to reap the consequences of his actions.
