Last night felt different from the start. The sky was unusually clear, and the moonlight spilled into my room like a silver spotlight. I couldn’t sleep, so I stepped outside for some fresh air.
The streets were quiet, except for a single stray dog sitting near the park gate. Strangely, it stared at me as if waiting for me to follow. Curious, I walked closer. The dog slowly stood and trotted into the park, looking back every few steps.
Inside the park, everything felt calm—almost magical. The air was cooler, and I could hear crickets singing softly. Suddenly, I noticed a wallet lying near the bench. I picked it up and found an ID card, some money, and a photo of a little girl.
I decided to wait in case someone came looking. After a few minutes, a man rushed in, panic written all over his face. When I showed him the wallet, relief washed over him. He told me it had his daughter’s photo—the only picture he had left after losing his phone.
He thanked me with tears in his eyes, and at that moment, the dog barked once and ran off into the darkness, as if its job was done.
When I finally returned home, I realized I wasn’t just sleepless that night—I was meant to be awake. Some nights bring small moments that remind us how connected we all are.
