Vicky's pregnancy was complicated and she suffered morning sickness. To make matters worse, Clara was adding insult to injury by making snide remarks.
One day, Vicky was at the subway when her water broke. She blacked out, and some commuters called for an ambulance. When she regained consciousness, her whole body hurt. But the pain was nothing as compared to what she was told.
"I'm sorry, your daughter didn't make it. We did all we could, but she couldn't be saved," the doctor said. Upon hearing the bad news, Vicky's world shattered. "She's in a better place, now she's watching over you from heaven," Clara consoled her. Distraught over the loss of her daughter, Vicky slipped into depression. She let herself go completely. She started going to pubs instead of classes, and even engaged in casual relationships with different men to dull the pain. When she was 19, she met a biker and ran away with him, much to Clara's chagrin. The biker was a horrible person and made Vicky do unspeakable things.
One day, Vicky was on the streets when she saw a little girl. She burst into tears when Vicky smiled at her. When she came to her senses, she looked at her reflection, and was horrified to see an image of herself as a broken woman in her 40s. "What has become of me?" she wondered.
Vicky left the biker and his undesirable group of friends and admitted herself into rehabilitation. When she was given the clean bill of health, she went back to Clara and apologized for her past behavior. She started working as a waitress at a cafe. One day, she was working when a young lady in her early 20s flung a glass of water into her face.
"Hello, there," the lady said in a steely voice. Everyone was shocked, especially Vicky, who was taken aback by her abruptness.
"What do you think you're doing? Who are you?" she asked.
"Mommy, don't you recognize your own daughter?" the lady asked angrily, pointing an accusing finger at her.
"What?" Vicky exclaimed, unable to believe what she had just heard.
"You abandoned me and you've been hiding like a coward," the lady said angrily.
"But that can't be true. I lost my daughter during childbirth," Vicky replied, putting her hand over her mouth.
"But why did Granny say you wanted nothing to do with me?" the lady asked, her stance softened.
"I can't believe my ears," Vicky muttered. The lady, whose name is Ruth, then told her how she had ended up in an orphanage. Back then, she had briefly heard the orphanage director told a Mr and Mrs Yiu how she had been abandoned in the orphanage when she was a newborn. The Yiu couple felt sorry for her and adopted her. When Ruth grew up, she started looking for her birth family. She found Clara, and the latter convinced her that Vicky did not care about her. However, Ruth refused to give up and resolved to find Vicky to tell her how she think of her. "For all those years I thought I lost you," Vicky said in between tears. She paid a visit to the doctor who delivered Ruth back then, and from there, she learnt the truth. It turned out that Clara had bribed him to lie to her that Ruth did not make it, and the doctor, who was in debt, agreed to do it.
After learning the truth, Vicky angrily confronted Clara, who not only did not try to apologize, but justified her action, saying she had been a single mother at a young age, and did not want Vicky to suffer like how she had suffered. "You would have abandoned her anyway and I would have had to raise her," Clara said without a shred of remorse. "You ruined my whole life. And don't you dare say you're doing this for my good, you egoist," Vicky shouted. That day, she decided to cut Clara out of her life for good. "If you think having me was a mistake, you'll never see me again," she said before leaving. Ruth took Vicky in, and both mother and daughter made up for years of lost time. Fortunately, Ruth's adoptive parents turned out to be wonderful people. They accepted Vicky as part of their family, and she quickly settled in. 2 years later, Ruth and Vicky got married got married to the love of their lives. Everyone cheered as they celebrated the double wedding of both mother and daughter.
