During the rainy season, some girls were playing near a tree. One girl picked up a stone and threw it at a bird sitting on a branch. She laughed as the bird flew away in fright. She continued throwing stones, finding amusement in the birds' scared reactions, unaware that she was causing them pain.
Suddenly, the girl heard a voice behind her, saying, “Catch her.” When she turned around, she saw a terrifying demon with red eyes, large teeth, and a thick club. Terrified, the girl called for her friends, but they had already left.
The demon said, “Tie her up and drag her.” The girl, scared, asked, “Where are you taking me?” The demon replied, “To hell, where sinners are fried like fritters in oil.” The girl, horrified, begged for mercy, and the demon told her that if she promised never to sin again, it would let her go. The girl quickly made the promise, and the demon vanished.
Running home, the girl asked her father what sin she had committed. Her father explained, “You were causing harm to innocent birds, and causing pain to innocent beings is a great sin.”
