At the very beginning Jasiri and I made a pinky promise that turning us into forever would be a beautiful journey. Our beginning was 15 years and four beautiful children ago and believe it or not, we still live up to our pinky promise! Today I wanted to get up and cook a nice hearty breakfast for my family: wheat toast, grits, breakfast potatoes, sausage links, bacon and scrambled eggs, hey what can I say I’m feeding all guys. Usually on Saturdays everyone except me would sleep in. To my surprise, this morning was the opposite. By the time I had all the ingredients out and set up all 5 of my fellas were entering the kitchen. Jasiri looked so handsome I see why I gave him four babies and would probably give him more if he asked. He was carrying our youngest son Jabali who appeared to be half asleep. “Hey mom, how are you feeling this morning,” my oldest son Jabari asked while kissing me on the cheek. “I am wonderful my son and how are you feeling,” asking with the biggest grin on my face. I love my sons so much, they are ideal, each and every one of them. I received hugs and kisses on my cheeks from Nuru my second eldest, and Nafasi who’s third in line. I walked over and gave Jabali and Jasiri a smutch and started working on breakfast again. Today everyone helped out with cooking, setting the table and setting the dishes in the dishwasher to keep them to a minimum. These were the best moments all of us together bonded. The table was wonderful, all positive energy surrounded it. Jabali yelled he wanted to play ball after breakfast, so I knew that meant the house to myself while they all went to the backyard. I informed everyone that they had to at least brush their teeth before going out. Once breakfast was cleared everyone scattered around the house looking for a bathroom. I went into our bedroom and just stood there for a moment embracing life. Thanking myself for making the pinky promise with Jasiri. He came into my life before all the heart break and showed me the way a woman should be treated but I was young and didn’t fully understand what he was trying to give and that was treatment that matched my true worth. Once I finally knew what it was , I truly wanted after all the years where we had little to no interaction my soul began to call for him and my body yearned for his touch, my spirit needed his touch of healing, and my broken heart knew only his love could mend it. Don’t get me wrong, it got very challenging at times my issues with trust nearly broke us, but Jasiri kept his word. His pinky promise that by my side he would always stand and after all this time here we are. For that I ensure my husband’s mind, body, spirit and soul are sound, happy and pleased! “I need a shower” I thought disrupting my own thoughts. It’s a good thing our bathroom is in the bedroom because standing there thinking about how my husband makes me feel really has my feelings in a chokehold and I don’t want to let off the wrong Impression. I stood in the bathroom mirror examining myself, pleased by what reflected at me. For forty I look damn good. I grabbed a ponytail holder from my drawer connected to the bathroom sink and pulled my hair up into a bun. I could hear my sons going back and forth about who was on who’s team, everyday stuff pretty much. Once the water finally hit my body it was absolutely amazing. I just stood there under the water allowing it to pour over my showers and fall onto my lower back. My eyes were closed, and my thoughts were loud and wild. It’s almost as if Jasiri could hear them because I felt his hands caress my waist and then pulled me in close. “Niambi, you are still so beautiful,” his voice the perfect vibration and sound in my symphony. Between the water and the kisses, he planted lightly on the back of my neck left me elevated. I broke free only to turn and face him. No words spoken only a gaze. I wrapped my arms around his neck resting them on his shoulders while kissing him like it was our very first time because this man still lit a fire in me that no other could ignite. He took the time to love my mind and showed me that in every way with him I was safe. The more I thought about the man he was and is the hungrier my kisses grew. He pulled away for a split second and smiled at me because he knew when I kissed him like this I wanted and needed him and was going to give him all that he could imagine. It’s nothing like loving a man that’s a man of his word. I whispered gently in his ear “I pinky promise that I will always be her for you!”
