The Reasons That Justifies

This feels painfully honest, especially in the way the narrator separates the affection from the harm: flowers, dates, protection and intimacy standing beside fists, insults and financial exploitation. The repeated question—“why did I stay?”—gives the piece its emotional center, because the answer isn’t simple weakness; it’s the longing to feel loved, safe and understood. I also appreciated that the ending turns inward without excusing the men’s behavior. “I was really her all along” lands as a hard-won recognition, and the final peace feels earned.
