"Take that," Leah, the bully said as she threw a cake at her classmate Heather. "This is what you get for not inviting me to your party."
"I'm sorry, I was too busy that I forgot to invite you," Heather tried to explain, but Leah was implacable.
"I don't care," she said. "No matter how much I mistreated you, you shouldn't have forgotten about me on this event." She then proceeded to rain punches on Heather. The other classmates tried to stop her, but to no avail. The class president, Jane went to get their class teacher, Miss Lam, who arrived at the scene.
"Leah Chong Po-kei, what do you think you're doing? Stop it at once," she ordered.
"How dare you talk to me in this manner?" Leah replied defiantly. "Do you know who my dad is? One word from me and you're finished." Miss Lam was afraid, because Leah is the daughter of Ethan Chong Yiu-hon, a local tycoon. However, seeing that she was bullying her classmate, Miss Lam refused to take any nonsense from her.
"Go ahead and report me," she said. "But before that, I'll get the discipline master." Hearing this, Leah immediately released her grip on Heather. Mr Kwok, the discipline master in their school, was feared by most students due to his stern demeanour, and no one wanted to get involved with him. She pointed at Heather, hinting that she would not let the matter rest before walking off.
One day, Leah and her friend, Karen were smoking in the school compound, oblivious to everyone else. Suddenly, Karen nudged her.
"Cops are coming," she shouted.
"Why are you fretting?" Leah said nonchalantly as she took another puff of cigarette. "They're all scared of my dad. They won't dare to do anything to us." As the police officers walked towards them and found them smoking fearlessly, Karen suddenly went on her knees.
"Please," she pleaded. "Why don't we just surrender? Maybe we'll get leniency?" This, however, infuriated Leah.
"What?" she snapped. "Are you scared of the police? They won't do anything to you." But before they could continue, the police were right in front of them.
"We suspect you to be in possession of drugs. We need to check your bags," one of the police officers said as he brandished his identity card. The police began their checks and found illicit substances in both Karen and Leah's bags. While Karen went down without incident, Leah refused to budge.
"Do you know who my dad is?" Leah said in her usual defiant tone. "If you arrest me, I'll make sure you all lose your jobs tomorrow."
"I don't care about that," said an officer as he handcuffed Leah. She was subsequently brought back to the police station alongside Karen and detained. The next day, she was brought to court, where her classmates and teachers were present.
"Do you understand your charge?" the judge asked.
"What's wrong with smoking pot?" Leah replied nonchalantly. She then turned to Ethan as he stood up. "Dad, get me out of here," she pleaded.
Ethan began his statement. "My daughter is a wonderful young lady who needs to learn to respect the law and people. Your Honour, I support any decision you make today." He then went on to describe how he was partly responsible for how things had turned out, as after the death of Leah's mother, he was preoccupied with providing for her that he did not spend enough time with her. This brought tears to Leah's eyes, and she admitted to her offences. The judge subsequently sentenced her to the Drug Rehabilitation Center for treatment and rehabilitation, the same sentence that Karen got.
While incarcerated, Leah realized the error of her ways. She apologized to her victims and mended her relationship with Ethan. One day, Ethan visited her at the Drug Rehabilitation Center, and informed her that he, together with Miss Lam, had spoken to Mr Kwok, who agreed to take her and Karen back after their release. Leah was overjoyed and promised to mend her ways. She and Karen finally went back to school after spending a year at the Drug Rehabilitation Center, promising to themselves not to repeat their mistakes.
