Prologue

Story:
A fine morning in Wisconsin A boy named Morgan Samuels gets ready to get to big city of San Fransico for a job at San Fransico St. Patick hospital as a surgeon he boards the flight to San Francisco and a small kid who is in the airport gets stuck by bill board which was being installed the screen shatters and the gets struck in the kid’s trachea and in other parts morgan who is passing by sees the boy who is struck by the bill board and asks everyone to move and a man who is a doctor in San Franscisco general steps near the boy and tries to save him but he doesn’t see the glass in trachea suddenly Morgan says “ if you continue to try stopping the bleed the boy will die.” The furious doctor says I am doctor and asks who Morgan is he says I am doctor Morgan Samuels surgical resident at St. Patrick’s and goes to grab a bottle of tequila and pours on the boy’s throat and gets his pocket knife and cuts open the boys throat and inserts an end of tube into his trachea and other end to the tequila bottle and makes sure the boy could have an outflow mechanism which made the boys breathing normal. The boy’s parents where happy that this man saved their boys life.
In the meantime In San Francisco St. Patrick’s the board of members are discussing about taking him in Mr. Adrian Murphy is trying to convince that Morgan is the right candidate while the other board members do not agree about this as the doctor has ADHD which will limit him in communication, and empathizing with the patient which will make the patient care a hard thing and the other candidates were far better but Mr. Adrian was very strong to give Morgan a chance in the meantime a news story flashes in in which Morgan saves the boy in the airport which convinces the board members to hire him ahead of other candidates after a in person interview. In the meantime, Morgan brings in the boy A surgical resident takes the boy in with the paramedics but as Morgan oversteps and says the diagnosis the surgical resident gets irritated and calls the security to remove Morgan from hospital premises and while diagnosing the doctors feel it difficult to identify a symptom which is caused by an unknown cause. They ordered CT scan for that boy and they found out that Morgan was saying the correct Diagnosis and he predicted it lot earlier than them and he said the treatment for the boy. They removed all the pieces of glass from the boy and make sure the boy is ok and the mean resident steps out of the hospital to see Morgan still waiting there for someone she goes to him and thanks him for saying the diagnosis which he said and Mr. Adrian comes out of the door and says that Morgan is needed in the conference room and the board members ask Morgan why he wants the job and Morgan says “ I had brother named Kevin he died when they were playing in a place by falling from the roof and he said at that time if I knew surgery I could have saved my brother. I could not save him as I was not able to do a surgery at that time but now, I can save many Kevin’s as I can do a Surgery now.” This convinces most of the board members but they also said that if Morgan screws up somewhere Mr. Adrian an important share holder in the hospital should leave his position in the hospital. After the interview Morgan and Adrian share blueberry pancakes in the cafeteria. Adrian leaves Morgan after hugging him and saying all the best Morgan and they part ways. Morgan heads to the surgical department. Morgan meets his co residents Marco and Cynthia. Cynthia is a friendly and approachable she welcomes Morgan with a smile. Morgan is confused and he says to “Cynthia you were cold to me when you didn’t know I work here and now you turn friendly all of a sudden.” These words startle Cynthia and she stammers and all three head to see their Attending Dr. Zuhaib who is one of the most successful surgeons in the country.
They all visit a patient who is an attorney she was having severe stomach obstruction due to a clot Dr. Zuhaib greets the patient and says his treatment plan of laparoscopically removing the clot and he orders a imaging to know what is the extent of the clot during the imaging Cynthia and Morgan see her scans and X rays results where Morgan notices that the clot is attached to one of the common iliac arteries which is not evidential in the X- Ray due to this Laparoscopic approach is not the best method and Morgan goes with Dr. Zuhaib to the Attorney and Dr. Zuhaib proposes the Laparoscopic thrombectomy and Suddenly morgan says that the patient would die due to loss of blood in the OR. This makes Dr. Zuhaib furious and he calls Morgan and leaves the room and he scolds Morgan and says never to do it again and assigns him to patient document updating Cynthia and Dr. Zuhaib prep the patient for surgery and in the OR Dr. Zuhaib tries to approach the clot and tries to remove it which crashes the patient and her heartbeat goes down and he views the ultrasound image closely and sees that the clot is attached to common iliac artery and Cynthia says Morgan was right and ask if he should assist but Dr. Zuhaib say he might be right but he could have discussed about the Thrombectomy in private so he will not assist and he stabilizes the patient and performs a Thrombectomy. During the surgery after updating all the patients records Morgan passes through a lobby where he meets Dr. Ellora who is the chief of surgery and his role model she is the best trauma surgeon in the entire world and she is the most successful too. Dr. Ellora is known for her tough and cold nature. When she crosses a patient waiting room a woman crashes to the ground and starts palpitations and she falls to ground and Dr. Ellora shouts at Morgan cannot you see thew woman crashing and she goes to her aid and Morgan goes near her and looks at the palpitations and Dr. Ellora orders a vasopressin injection and the woman gets stabilized after the injection and she gets stabilized. Then Dr. Ellora scolds Morgan for his irresponsible nature and she asked him to step his game up and he should help people which is important for a doctor. Marco joins Morgan after the incident and says you have got on the wrong foot with the wrong person. Morgan is upset about starting on the wrong foot with Dr. Ellora he is lost in his thoughts and gets lost in the hospital and an old and trembling voice comes from behind him saying “ Are you lost here dear and I have lost in this hospital too.” Morgan then sees the old woman wearing a patient robe and asks who she is and she says “ I am Fiona and I have been here for a few years now due to my Epilepsy and where are my manners who are your young man.” Morgan replies he is Dr. Morgan the new Surgical Resident in the hospital and he was asking where she is going and they both had a chit chat and they both reached the intern room and bid their farewell talking with Mrs. Fiona cleared Morgan’s head and started to leave for his home he got in a bus and reached his apartment and Mr. Adrian was also there to help him unpack and he says that Dr. Zuhaib let him to update the patient’s medical records. This made Adrian upset as Dr. Zuhaib has not allowed Morgan to be part of the surgery and he invites Morgan for breakfast the next day. After a while someone knocks on Morgan’s door and it was his neighbor Layla who is a software engineer and introduces herself and apologizes for waking him at this hour and asks for a battery. Morgan gives her the batteries and both calls it a night.
The next day Adrian drops Morgan at the hospital and they share a breakfast. After the breakfast Morgan heads to see the attorney to check for post operation infection and her vitals and Adrian meets Dr. Zuhaib and he asks why Morgan was not on the surgery Dr. Zuhaib replies “ Adrian He is surely a gifted person but he cannot oppose my decision in front of a patient that is why he was not on the surgery.” Then Adrian says “ Dr. Zuhaib you do realize that he is different from us he has social issues.” Then Dr. Zuhaib decides to let Morgan to assist him the surgery later in the day. In the meantime, Morgan checks the attorney and checks for any infection in the surgical site. During the assessment Morgan asks the attorney how do you say that your boss is wrong and the attorney replied “just try to say things nice and private and not in front of others so that their ego does not get hurt. He takes note of the advice and moves to see the other patients and he gets a page that he is about to assist in a surgery in happiness he heads to the changing room and changes to his scrubs and sees the surgical forceps toy which his brother gifted him. Then Cynthia and Morgan head to the OR and scrub in and start the operation and Morgan is asked to take care of suction and Dr. Zuhaib says this will be your duty for the rest of your career. After the surgery all the residents move to the break room where they relax and Cynthia shares the encounter with Layla and he asks if he should get back the battery he lent. Cynthia said not to ask the batteries back. Later on, the night he knocks on Layla’s door and asks for the battery he lent and they both talk for a while in her apartment and call it a night.
After a few days of being in suction Morgan gets frustrated on being in suction and he is getting angry and he shares his frustration to Layla and she suggest him to take a day off and initially Morgan was hesitant but eventually he agrees and Morgan informs Adrian about this and sends a message to Dr. Zuhaib and they both go to a club and Morgan tries alcohol for the first time and they both sing karaoke and they both kissed and they stayed in a motel and the next day Layla pushes Morgan to drive a car but he hesitates and then tries it and while driving he misses a dog and they crash on a nearby bush. The next day Dr. Zuhaib performs a colectomy of a patient one of the board members and Dr. Ellora watch the surgery from the altar above Dr. Ellora asks Dr. Zuhaib to let Morgan close the patient and Morgan closes up the patient after the operation Morgan walks to give a few samples to pathology where he meets Mrs. Fiona and he greets her and they both talk and she says “ I have a dream of going to Paris which is my dream destination” and she was explaining everything about Paris to Morgan and she said that she has been in this hospital for about 10 years due to her epilepsy and she says she misses her family and they approach pathology and Mrs. Fiona bids farewell and leaves Morgan. Morgan always feels happy and comfortable around Mrs. Fiona and that made him think about how he can cure her condition and he also noticed that everyone in the hospital loved her and he thought to bring her dream true. So, he started researching about the methods to cure epilepsy and he even spoke about helping Mrs. Fiona to Cynthia and Marco and they all discussed about what were the methods to control her seizures which could help her condition to slowly cure her condition they even started seeing the medication for similar conditions day and night. One day a guy named Declan from Santora pharmaceuticals which is one of the leading companies in pharma industry and he tries to convince the president of the hospital to suggest his medicines to the patients.
After a few days Dr. Zuhaib understands how gifted Morgan was his savant syndrome made him to visualize complex anatomies and it made him a gifted surgeon as he could also see a few things imaging cannot see and the end of his first year as resident was approaching and Dr. Ellora asked about the residents to Dr. Zuhaib and he was explaining about everyone and he said good stuff about Morgan and Ellora was impressed and she wanted him to assist her in a Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA) Arterial Switch Operation. Which is a very complex procedure and She informs Dr. Zuhaib that she will inform the news to Morgan herself and later in the day she goes to the surgical ward to see Morgan checking a patient for his vitals and infection and he orders a few tests as he sees a minor variation at the heart rate. After morgan steps out of the patient’s room Dr. Ellora approaches Morgan and informs him that he will be assisting her in TGA and then she asked why he ordered the tests for the patient and he explained that the patient had irregular heart rate and he was palpitating. So, he wanted to check how his heart and Dr. Ellora said the nurse to update the patients test results to her. When she saw the result and how good of a diagnostician was Morgan as the results showing the patient had heart arrythmia. Dr. Ellora then made Morgan as her assist in this surgery too. After a few days it was time was TGA surgery and Morgan started preparing the patient for her surgery and takes her to OR and in the OR they started the long and complex process when they saw the artery they saw that superior venacava was twined with the pulmonary artery which was to be operated on and that made the surgery more complex even Dr. Ellora was confused what to do but Morgan suggested that we will embolize the venacava and perform the TGA till then the patient would be on Bypass and they performed the operation like Morgan said and succeeded in the operation. After the surgery Dr. Ellora saw Morgan waiting in the bus stand and she went to talk to Morgan and she sat near him and said you did a good job in the OR keep it up she said and they had a chat till the bus came.
The next day Morgan was browsing the internet where he found a drug trail for another disease which has shown promise in treating epilepsy. This trail was conducted by Santora labs and then researches further on the medicine. Then he said about the drug to Cynthia and Marco, where Marco had his doubts about the drug and he was not very helpful but Cynthia showed complete support to Morgan’s Idea and told him to pitch it to Dr. Ellora. Later in the day Morgan visited Dr. Ellora and pitched the idea of making Mrs. Fiona the part of trail but Morgan was not ready to give up and he pitches the idea to Mrs. Fiona and said her not to say about this to anyone. She was elated and happy after hearing she could finally visit Paris and agreed to do it. Morgan and Cynthia went to a restaurant to discuss how they are going give the drug to Mrs. Fiona and they had heard that Declan would be visiting the hospital the coming Monday and they both have seen him carry medicine samples so they decided to create a distraction a steal the test drug and inject it to Mrs. Fiona.
On Monday Declan came to the hospital as per the schedule and Morgan and Cynthia started their plan and as per the plan Cynthia started a small talk with Declan and then she said that Dr. Ellora wanted to see her and she made him to come after her when he missed his bag and Morgan took the bag to a janitor closet nearby and he took the drug and hid it inside his coat and Declan came back furious as he was insulted by Dr. Ellora as he wanted her to become the face of their brand she just did not refuse his offer she also insulted him badly and when he came back he saw the bag in table and he just checked the documents present it and stormed out of the hospital.
Morgan said Cynthia not to accompany him if someone is going to get caught let it be me he said and entered Mrs. Fiona’s room and he saw her so excited on seeing the drug and he prepared her to inject the drug. She was so happy and saying I am going to go to Paris repeatedly and he administered the medicine and said this medicine might take two days to show its response in your body. Then after two days to her doctors surprise her seizures where not occurring and she did not even find a trace that she had epilepsy and then she re ran the tests and said happily to Mrs. Fiona that a miracle has occurred somehow her body controlled her epilepsy and she added that she could go home today evening. The entire hospital was happy about Mrs. Fiona’s recovery and they happily sent her home along with her son before leaving she spoke to every doctor and thanked everyone for taking care of her.
Mrs. Fiona sends the picture of her in Paris and her happiness made Morgan so happy. After a few weeks a news hits Morgan that Mrs. Fiona is dead and Dr. Mohan the president of the hospital says that she was administered with a trail drug from Santora Pharma which caused her recovery. Dr. Mohan was furious that some doctor in this hospital had given the dosage to her. Everyone was put under investigation spectrum and but the residents were interrogated multiple times which made Morgan suspicious that Dr. Mohan knew it was someone from the residents and then Morgan was called for the interrogation and he said he does not know anything about the drug and that he feels sad for Mrs. Fiona as she was a very nice person and she was a good friend.
The evening Morgan feels guilty that he was the reason for Mrs. Fiona’s death and Adrian visits Morgan in his apartment and he breakdown and says everything to Adrian and he said he would not be suffering any consequences as they do not have proof to say that he was the person who did it and consoled him and left. After some time, Layla visits Morgan and he breaks down in front of her due to his guilt and she asks what happened and she listens to him about what he did and how he helped an old woman to achieve her dream which is correct she said and she said he should not worry as he did ‘t do anything wrong and she said she will help him. Layla then hacks into the hospitals server and views the video feed on the day which Morgan said they stole Declan’s bag to steal she made sure to change the video feed there and make sure that morgan was nowhere nearby the incident according to the surveillance camera feed. The when she was seeing another day’s feed she saw that Marco was talking something seriously to Dr. Mohan and she asked do you suspect someone snitching on you and Cynthia also came to see how Morgan was holding up and when she saw Layla consoling Morgan she came in slowly and asked how Morgan was doing and then Layla showed both of them the video of Marco talking to Dr. Mohan in private about some medicine and she asks whether it is the medicine Morgan gave to Mrs. Fiona and in a few days Cynthia saw Marco talking to Mrs. Fiona’s son and after seeing her he started to behave like he never knew the man.
Then Cynthia confronted Marco about snitching about the medicine they administered and the conversation was a heated one after the conversation Cynthia came to Morgan’s place and said about what she saw and what Marco did Layla and Morgan were shocked to know this truth and they informed Adrian about the snitch. Layla decided to make the surveillance footage where Morgan was there to Marco which will make him pay for his mistakes but Morgan did not agree to it and Layla left the video as it is as the bag is just there and the hospital gets sued by Mrs. Fiona’s son who was instigated by Declan and Marco. During the trail everyone gets investigated and Morgan gets investigated the board members s did see him guilty and the board members s also viewed the security camera footages and decided as there is no objective evidence that Mrs. Fiona was given this drug they were about to dismiss the case but suddenly Adrian comes to the court and Gives them the records of Marco being guilty as he was the one who administered the drug as an evidence he submitted the call records between Marco and Declan and their conversations about the drug and Dr. Mohan video footage of Marco talking about the drug to Dr. Mohan. The Board members then called Dr. Mohan and asked him about their conversation and he said Marco asked about the drug and its trail. Which made Declan and Marco as the criminals.
Outside the Conference room Morgan hugged Adrian and said thankyou and suddenly Adrian collapsed and they rushed him to the hospital and after running some tests Adrian was informed that he has a terminal Carcinoma in his brain which is malignant. Adrian then slowly called Morgan and broke the news to him and he was broken and he started shouting “ you said you would never leave me but now you are saying that you will die.” and he said there has to be a mistake in the tests and he demanded the doctors to rerun the tests. That night Layla come over to Morgan’s apartment and she says that she is heading back to her home town and she is quitting her job as this is not what she likes.
After a few days Morgan is in his rounds in Surgical Department where he sees a patient and examines him and says that his liver is failing fast and he has tumor as per his test results Dr. Ellora sees Morgan breaking the news to the patient. Then she approaches Morgan to talk and they both go through the surgical procedure for the patient. Then after a few hours they get a page saying the patient is crashing Morgan goes to stop his crashing by injecting vasopressin and calming his mind and gets him ready for the surgery immediately. During the surgery Morgan and Dr. Ellora both do the procedure and it is a success and Dr. Ellora let Morgan to close the patient u p and he also closes the patient up. After a few hours of surgery, the patient crashes again and goes into shock Morgan is been paged immediately and he approaches the patient and reduces his shock epinephrine and orders imaging of his operated area and he goes to Dr. Ellora and says something is wrong with the patient and he starts thinking and results arrive to Dr. Ellora’s room and she sees a nicked vein which carries blood to heart which caused the shock. Dr. Ellora thinks of all the possible reasons for the nick in the vein and Morgan starts to melt down that they have failed in a surgery and the feeling of losing Adrian makes things worse and he suddenly shout why is everything going wrong for me. Dr. Ellora tries to calm him down and he says that Adrian has a terminal cancer in his brain which is inoperable area which has made him sad.
The news comes as a shock to Dr. Ellora and she asks Morgan to take a day off and relax and she investigates about the nicked vein and in the meantime Morgan goes to meet Adrian and asks him to re-run his test and to do it for him. Adrian says “Morgan you are great kid neither your mom or anyone just didn’t get that and you have accepted the fact that I am going to leave you.” Morgan says “Why does everyone want to leave me” he cries gets angry and melts down Adrian calms him down and gives his toy forceps which his brother gave and when he starts to feel the hold of it he beings to calm down and he starts saying about the false positives that can occur in a medica report and its statistics and forces Adrian to make an appointment.
The next morning dawned with a heavy sense of anticipation as Morgan and Adrian made their way to the hospital for a crucial re-run of Adrian’s tests. The once-familiar corridors now seemed to stretch endlessly, their bustling energy juxtaposed sharply against the tension that clung to them like a second skin. After a few days after a pneumothorax surgery, he is called to consult on another case—a woman with advanced uterine cancer.
