With a gentle, magical transformation the forest was awakening at dawn, its rosy fingers filtering through the canopy, casting a soft, golden glow on the forest green tapestry. The grass glistened, crowned with dewdrops like tiny jewels, reflecting the early morning light. The air was cool and fresh, filled with the earthy scent of moss and damp soil.
The forest, bathed in this serene light, felt alive and vibrant as if every leaf and blade of grass celebrated the new day. It was a moment of peace and beauty. The forest seemed to hold its breath, welcoming the dawn with quiet reverence. Birds began their morning chorus, their songs echoing through the trees, while small and big animals stirred from their slumber.
Raquel, a petite, graceful doe with a coat as soft as velvet, adorned with gentle white spots that shimmer like stars in the twilight. Large, expressive eyes sparkling with curiosity, reflecting the serene beauty of the forest she calls home. Light and silent steps take her through the forest with an elegant, almost ethereal presence, dancing under the moonlight, her movements graceful as the swaying trees she is the embodiment of grace and kindness? Satisfied she lies by the river, admiring the stars, dancing to the water's song.
In the morning, she playfully chases after the falling leaves, discovering new paths and hidden clearings. As she starts enjoying the glistening grass, suddenly, the forest mutes. There are no tweets or chirping, even the leaves stop rustling, and the river seems to stop flowing. It appears as if the whole forest is holding its breath.
Raquel's keen senses awakened, she froze and raised her head, ears pointed forward, her eyes peering through the forest shadows, and nostrils flaring to catch any scent of danger. Something was just not right. Her body tense, her heart beating faster in anticipation of sprinting away to safety. A loud warning snort went out of her, she stomped expecting a reaction from the unseen danger, but nothing.
A rush of excitement and adrenaline surged through his body as coming out of the forest into a clearing the man spotted the prize for which he was searching. He slowly lay face down on the tall grass, camouflaging himself. In the same manner, he moved his rifle to the shooting position, his heart beating with excitement, his finger trembling with anticipation, not only his finger but his whole body, this was why he had moved from the city, for the primal experience, the excitement of the hunt, the killing, survival of the strongest, taking his place in the food chain - the apex predator.
Raw emotions invaded him, a sense of belonging and connection to nature filled him. His hunting skills will be put to the test, and this will be a huge achievement. In his head he heard the sound of the shot, and the doe falling to the grass he pictured himself standing tall and proud beside the dead doe, her head as a trophy hanging on his wall cabin, yes; this could be the starting point of his career as a hunter, from here on to look for bigger prizes, but in the meantime, this little doe will suffice.
Suddenly, thoughts started going through his head. Under the early sun rays, peering through the canopy. The doe was majestic, and graceful, her fur shining, displaying a sort of kindness, she was beautiful. Looking at her just standing there, vulnerable, impotent, frozen, her body tense and at the same time trembling in anticipation, her eyes trying to discover the danger that she knew was there, but somehow unable to act on it. Did he really need to shoot her? Did he really need the meat? Was he that shallow?
These reflections conflicted him. Remorse and sadness. Remorse because he was about to take the life of a beautiful creature that was not a threat to anybody, animals, or people. Sadness because he will be depriving nature of the gracefulness and kindness, that this creature irradiated it.
But the mix of anticipation, excitement, and nervousness, was an exhilarating rollercoaster of emotions, each one contending for dominance in his mind. It was almost paralyzing, making every second feel like an eternity.
A little cracking noise sounded like a bomb in the deep silence of the moment, at the same moment Raquel sprinted to safety deep in the forest, the hunter standing up had stepped on a dry stick. Has it been on purpose or a regretful mistake?
Mistake or not he felt accomplished with a sense of respect and personal growth and a warm sensation in his chest. Slowly he started walking through the forest after all, the day was just starting.
