This story starts in the state of Florida, where there was a girl named Elizabeth Guzman. Everyone she knew called her Liz. Liz was 11 years old, and she had a sister named Olivia who was 20 years old. She also had a nephew, but she thought of him as a brother. His name was Braxton, and he was 4 years old. They all had a mom, and her name was Heather, and they had a dad named Mason. They weren't the typical family; they swore and joked inappropriately with each other, but were always close. There was never anything in their way, and Liz was pleased with her life; little did they know a tragedy was going to happen soon.
This story starts on July 20th of 2021, me and my mom woke up and had an important day ahead. See I had a doctor's appointment and it was to determine if I was okay because I had been acting differently.
When my mom and I went to the appointment, the nurse gave me paperwork and told me I needed to fill it out. I was confused and looked at my mom and said, 'Why did they give me this? I thought you were supposed to do this? ' My mom then turned and said 'You need to fill this out because it's about how you feel. I continued to fill out the paperwork and turned it in. Someone walked out of the door and yelled, 'Hi Liz, my name is Zoe, and I need you and your mom to come back here so you can talk to the doctor'.My mom and I walked into the room and waited for the doctor to come in, but meanwhile, I was nervous, I was so scared that I would have something wrong with me. The doctor eventually came in and said, "Hi, my name is Dr. Chloe, you must be Liz".
I looked at my mom, scared, and then at the doctor. Chloe then stated, "Has your daughter ever shown she was depressed or had anxiety"? I looked at my mom, confused because I didn't know what that was, and she replied, "No." I looked at my doctor, terrified, and she said, "I believe Liz has a mild case of depression and has a high case of anxiety".We then left and went to the car, and when we got in, my mom looked at me and said, "Are you depressed, sad, or down about anything"? I said no, and we went home. A month passed, and everyone in my house got sick except my dad and sister. My mom and I were sick to the point where we couldn't eat or walk. That night, my dad took me to the hospital, and we found out I had COVID-19. We were both scared because there was no cure for it.
I got home and told my mom that we all probably had it. She was raised in a tough household, so she said I'm fine and I'm doing better," when we all knew she was lying. My mom and I slept on the couch overnight because we couldn't walk that well. In the morning, we woke up, and we had gotten worse overnight, but my mom had gotten worse than I had. My dad asked my mom if she was hungry, but as usual, she replied, 'No'.He knew she had to eat, so he went into the kitchen and made her soup to eat. While he was making soup, my mom tried to get up and fell on her hands and knees, and I yelled, "MOM, are you okay?" My dad didn't come in until five minutes later. He checked on her and asked "What happened" She didn't say anything at first, and then she said "I feel weak and helpless, i want to get up and move but I'm getting worse"My dad didn't know I heard what she said but then walked away and got the soup.
My mom eventually lay on her side so I thought she was sleeping, but then my dad came in and told her she needed to eat, but she didn't say anything. He started shaking her over and over, but she didn't move, and she was gone. I called the ambulance and watched her get dragged out of my house. They said she was going to make it, then my dad walked through that door twenty minutes later, crying, and he had never cried. He walked in saying, "I'm so sorry she didn't make it," and I felt my whole world shift as I died with her. The unbearable tragedy that had struck and made me go to pieces had only begun. My sister Olivia eventually came, and she collapsed in the doorway, asking, "How and why did this happen?" There were no words that any of us could say.
My sister cleaned herself up and helped me get dressed because we had to go say our final goodbyes. We get into the car and drive to the hospital, everyone in silence. We go into the room, and it feels dark and empty, and there she is lying on the table as cold as ice. I couldn't say goodbye every time I looked at him. I cried because I wanted to die. We eventually said our goodbyes and went home. Later on that week, my sister came by more frequently., Before all of this had happened, my dad had kicked my sister out, so she was living with her boyfriend, and we didn't see her as much. Although my sister came by more, everything was still different, and there was a change with my dad that wasn't right.
Later on, he was saying unspeakable things that he had never said before, and I never wanted to hear those words again. When I told Olivia what had been happening, she came over while I was in the shower. Little did I know she was talking to my dad, and they were staring at me when I walked into their room. The dead silence killed m,,e and then Olivia quietly sa, id "Tell him what you texted me and what you were worried abo." I said I couldn't. I was scared, and they were getting agitated, I could tell, so I said I was scared because he said something that I didn't like.
They looked at me, and my dad was confused. He asked, "What did I even say? I never said anything offensive or mean".I looked at Olivia and said, d That's a lie. He said he wanted to electrocute himself, and he was going to make sure he wasn't alive when I graduate. he laughed at me and said I was being ridiculous. Later on that week, everything was quiet, and my dad locked himself in his room.Wheneverr he came out, he would always be on his phone laughing and smiling.
I thought something was happening, but there was no proof, and I didn't want to do anything because I was still grieving. Two weeks had passed, and Olivia took me to school and parked the ccarI was confused because she always dropped me off. Olivia got quiet and said, "If I wanted you to move back to our hometown, would you?" I said yes, but I wanted her to come with me because we were so close. She looked at me and looked out the window and started crying, she looked back at me and as," The only way you can move back there is without me, and you would have to take Braxton with you".I shook my head yes, and we started crying, and I continued to go to school. Later on, my oldest sister Trisha drove from Michigan to Florida to get me and my nephew, but before we left, she went into the mall and was snooping around, I don't know what for, but she was and she wouldn't tell me what she was looking for. While my dad was at work, we took off back to Michigan because we were not allowed to leave. After all, my dad didn't want us to go, but we had no choice, so we left.
