Echoes of the Andromeda

This story deals with Lieutenant Raul Santacruz of Paraguayan Army. It is set in the savage landscape of Chaco Boreal Boreal in the disastrous year 1932. It is a record of human suffering and cruelty. It was a time of the Chaco War between Bolivia and Paraguay. The war was for an oil-rich barren wasteland. It transcends all bounds in terms of sheer violence and bleakness. This Lieutenant Santacruz navigates through harshness. Disease, hunger and unending violence these are the somber companions. They are for all soldiers involved. The discovery of mutilated Bolivian soldier is a turning point. Found tortured, it left behind as ghastly reminder. It reflects on escalated brutality. Futile and drawn-out conflict turns soldiers into madmen. Unspeakable atrocities are committed. Villages are eliminated. Innocent civilians meet the same fate all in a bid to crush the enemy's spirit. Raul witnesses and takes part in the savagery. Under the weight of his deeds, his soul slowly vanishes. The story reaches an intense peak. This is with a last frantic battle against superior Bolivian forces. Raul could only spectate severely hurt. He witnesses how his comrades fall around him. Humans cruelty again permeates the dialogue. Barbarity finds a seat at the table. It leaves no room for reason nor reflection. This controlled chaos latches onto Raul like a bad, pestilent dream.
