Orphaned Monkeys
Orphaned monkeys are captured or purchased and domesticated at homes in Sierra Leon. Cut-off from their jungle lifestyles, these orphaned monkeys become victims of human quest for wild meat consumption and trade within the transnational organized trade network in the Mano River Basin countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia. In the absence of regulations banning trade in and consumption of monkeys, the monkey population has significantly reduced in Sierra Leone and neighboring countries. This disturbing situation accelerates the extinction of the monkey family to an extent that future generation will miss their presence.
