King's Affirmation
I connected with the central idea that privacy and silence can be forms of strength, especially in “There is no shame / in holding your truth / close to your chest.” But the poem kept circling that idea without giving it a concrete situation or person to inhabit, so the emotional force stayed somewhat distant for me. The shift from personal boundaries to the image of a “true king” also felt less fully earned: I understood the intended authority, but wondered why kingship was the frame rather than simply self-possession. The repeated “My voice demands authority” gives the piece a strong, chant-like ending, though it also highlights how much the poem relies on declaration instead of discovery.
