The Family
Rebecca and her parents move to Khagaul as her dad is appointed as the new branch Manager of his bank. She is unhappy as she again has to move away from her friends and start everything fresh. Rebecca's mother, Lily is having continuous arguments with her husband, Dash as he is a he doesn't make enough money. Moving to the new locality was not their top priority.
The car pulls over to their new house and it's a nice 2 bhk apartment at an affordable price. The family starts moving their stuff from the car and tries settling in.
The Neighbourhood
Dash decides to ho for a walk to know how far the convenient stores are. He notices the houses are about half a mile away from each other and even when he nodded and smiled at an old guy, he looked scared to answer back. At first he thought, he might've scared the old man as this place is very conservative compared to the rest of the country. He reaches the grocery store and while talking the shopkeeper asks him, "So where have you been appointed?" As to Dash replied, "Mehnat Bank as a general manager". The shopkeeper hurries packing his stuff and his face goes pale.
The Bank
It is Dash's first day at office, he was greeted and soon after he got back to his work. He heard his colleagues whispering something. He confronts them and that's when he discovers, the previously appointed manager had gone missing along with his family. They didn't expect a new manager this soon. The company was paying Dash much more salary than expected, it clicked his mind. He was not even qualified to be a branch manager this fast. He even found that there were rumours about the old manager and his family being shot in public. Is this the reason as to why nobody wanted to go to Khagaul? The clerk told him about how the townspeople would simply rob the bank every year and won't even hesitate to kill anyone. Everyone would agree to the terms and conditions of these powerful men. Anyone who argued or wanted to bring change, would be killed right then and there. None of these news were ever covered by the media as everyone was too terrified. Dash couldn't believe his ears, he decided to report these incidents to the police.
The Neighbours
Lily was always a social butterfly but when she tried to introduce herself or make some friends, she realized other women talking about how stupid she is to come here with a daughter. On the first day of Rebecca's school, she was left on the last bench as she was a shy child. Rebecca started talking to one of the lonesome girls who sat in the corner of her bench and found out she was her neighbour.
Few Days Later
Rebecca was a 13 year old care free child so she was only focused on getting true friends and playing games. Her new friend Sanya, was a really caring girl. She always helped Rebecca with her academic and even waited for her after school so that those two can walk home together. However, Sanya's mother didn't like Rebecca coming to their house. She would be annoyed to see Rebecca playing with Sanya. Sanya's mother warned her to stay away from Rebecca as she is not a good girl but who would make a 13 year old understand.
That Day
Three men rang the bell when Lily was alone at home, she was extremely uncomfortable as how these men glared at her body. She covered herself with her scarf and asked, "How may I help you?" As to one the men replied, "You look like a snack! Do you want to taste us to?". Lily was shocked to this reply as she got a hold on herself, she asked again, "Is this how you talk to the women in your house?" Now the guy got angry and took out his gun and said, "You have 7 days to ask your husband to resign and leave this city or else we have information that you have a beautiful daughter too. If you wanna live, ask your husband to resign and go away. You can ask your neighbours what we did to the previous manager."When Dash returned home that night, Lily rushed to his arms and told him everything. Dash and his family then decided to report this incident to the local police station. The inspector asked Dash to calm down and that he would take preventive measures.
In the midnight, around 2, a loud thud woke the family up, the family was dragged out of their house and Dash was told to beg for mercy to the Leader of the Gang, Ganesh bhaiya. Dash was stunned to see the inspector next to him and standing silently. When he denied and started asking for help. None of the neighbours came upfront. They had shame in their eyes and stood there as if they were without their spines. The men started beating Dash and the road was filled with Dash's blood. Lily kept pleading to Ganesh for her husband's life but she was gang raped in public. Both the husband and wife were then shot dead. These wild beasts were now looking at Rebecca. She was now shaking and starts running as these men start chasing her like hungry lions.
After 4 Years
It is Sanya's 18th birthday today, as everybody is eagerly waiting for Sanya's new scooter, they heard a door knock. It was the Police and Sanya couldn't be any more happy. Her mother asked her what the matter was but instead of replying, Sanya started walking towards the old house where her friend, Rebecca used to live. The new tenants looked as confused as Sanya's family as the birthday girl pointed towards an old rusty door. When the door was opened, they found Rebecca in the corner of the room. Everybody was shocked to see that she was still alive. Four years ago, when Rebecca's parents were brutally murdered, she was rescued by her best friend Sanya. Sanya, being a teenager hid her friend in that old house and shared her lunch everyday for the last four years. She didn't know how to help Rebecca so she waited until she became an adult to make a statement and be an eye witness to happened that night to her best friend's family. She said, "Even if I had this rage in me against my own family, I couldn't do anything but wait for the right day to come".
Later when this case was investigated by the CBI, similar cases were reported by the locals. Rebecca could never thank Sanya enough so both the friends moved to a new city and started their journey afresh.
