Picture a serene Sunday morning. You awaken, stretch your limbs, and pull open your window to a brilliant sunny day. But hold on—where is everyone? The usually crowded street is completely deserted. It seems you're the only person left on Earth, so what’s next? Well, you can do anything you wish! If the world is your playground, then this one belongs solely to you! Indulge in every wild idea, outrageous dream, or whim you have! Take the fastest sports car for a spin on the open road. Yes, there’s no traffic! Play golf from the top of a skyscraper! Why not? Who will complain about you breaking windows with your golf ball? Have you always dreamed of living in a mansion? Now you can! The world is full of possibilities, and nothing is stopping you from exploring every one of them!
Once you’ve exhausted all that fun and excitement, you might start wondering, “What’s next?” Perhaps it’s time to uncover what really happened and why everyone vanished. You could attempt to find other people. What if you’re not entirely alone? You might search the city for others, but in this scenario, you could search globally and not find a single soul. Yes, it sounds a bit frightening, I know. So, it’s time to tackle more pressing matters, like how to survive in this empty domain of yours.
The first challenge is food and water. You’ll have a supply for a while, but perishable items like fruits and vegetables will spoil quickly. Consume these first! With no one managing the power stations that keep grocery store refrigerators running, they will shut off eventually. As for water, initially, gather every bottled water you can find and store it. But remember, this supply will deplete, so you’ll need to figure out how to filter water yourself eventually. After a few days, weeks, or months enjoying these perishables, you’ll need to plan for long-term provisions. With no electricity to power refrigerators and freezers, rice, beans, and canned goods will become your staples. Eventually, you’ll need to learn how to grow your own food, so don’t delay in honing your farming skills!
Medical supplies are also crucial. Scour pharmacies for future supplies in case of emergencies, as there won’t be any doctors available for serious injuries. So, maybe avoid parkour in your new world.
Survival skills are not just about farming and water filtration. You rely on many services and people without realizing it. In a world where you’re the last human, you’ll need to learn essential skills such as hunting, first aid, and cooking. With plenty of time and access to entire libraries, you can educate yourself on these topics. Without the Internet, you’ll need to return to traditional learning methods. It will be challenging initially, but you’ll eventually become a skilled survival expert!
Another aspect to consider is communication. Even if you consider yourself an introvert now, humans are inherently social beings. But if there’s no one around, perhaps it’s time to get a dog—or even several! Maybe a personal zoo? But be cautious, as wild animals might view you as prey rather than a companion. A dog or cat might be a better choice, or a parrot that at least responds to you!
Next, think about your shelter. While living in a mansion or palace is enjoyable and could last for years, or staying in luxury hotels might be appealing, eventually, the novelty will wear off. Buildings will become unsafe without maintenance. Consider moving away from the city. You can go anywhere, as there are no borders, migration laws, or passports to restrict you. Just remember to find fuel sources, as abandoned vehicles will be useless once their fuel spoils. Settling in a place with a moderate climate would be ideal to avoid extreme weather conditions.
Clothing is another important consideration. Initially, you might enjoy trying on various outfits, but eventually, practicality will become more important. Ensure you have suitable clothing for all seasons and enough warm clothes and blankets. Even in a warm climate, it’s wise to be prepared for sudden cold spells.
Surviving as the last person on Earth can seem daunting, but there’s a positive side! Think of the endless ways to entertain yourself—learn to paint, sculpt, make pottery, or even write your own story. What would you name it? “The Last Human on Earth”? “In a World of My Own”? Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it? Plus, you might need to improve your language skills, especially if your only conversation partner is a parrot that repeats everything you say and constantly asks for crackers!
