As I make my way through the front gate at church,playing with my fingers as I do when I'm nervous. A figure appears from behind me almost knocking me to the ground. I turn around to see a little boy covered in grass stains with a rugby ball in his hands. "Sorry girly you were in my way" he said mockingly while laughing with his friend. I never imagined in my wildest dreams he would become the person I loved most in the world.
PRESENT DAY
"Callie, Callie " I hear a voice calling my name ."Your gonna be late for work , it's time to get up! "Mom ? I'm up what time is it anyway? I get up took my phone of the charger and went on Spotify and put on Lana Del Rey cause who starts they're day without listening to the Goddess of Sadness.
I started working as a cashier at one of our local supermarkets about a week ago and and the only job I could get and even though it's not ideal we needed the money. After I matriculated I wanted to become a teacher but my grades weren't that good and I thought whatever my dad has money so I don't need it boy was I wrong. As I'm walking to work I see a familiar car drive past me ... I freeze and suddenly got butterflies in my stomach. Realization hit me and it's the boy I fell head over heels in love with when I was 13years old. Memories of the last 10 years comes flashing back at me and I remember the day he work up with me and that too over video call . Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse it starts to rain. I make my way to the store just in time and started my shift.
Later that evening after cash up I head outside the store and there he was leaning against his car waiting for me. I head over to him and he opens his arms expecting a hug . As I leaned in the sent of him covered me with warmth I haven't felt in a long time. "I missed you cay" he said giving a smile till his dimples popped out. God how he just knows what to do to make me weak. I looked at him and asked what he wanted . He looks at me confused. In my mind I'm thinking what the actual hell he shows up after months of no contact and not even responding to the messages I left him. "Devin. What are you doing here?" I finally asked " Come on Cay I can't come see my girly after so long?" Anger floods my face and I can feel the tears blurring my eyes. "First you ignore me while we're together, break up with me over the phone then blocked me now your here outside my place of work...haven't you done enough? I asked with a groggy voice." Just get in the damn car Cay!" Can't you see I'm tryna talk to you". I get in the car and we drove off.
"Can you just take me home , I'm tired and I don't wanna do whatever this is" I asked while my voice breaks the silence. He takes me home I get out and I greeted him goodnight as I walked inside.
As I entered my room I got a call from my cousin asking if I wanted to go out and have a few drinks cause she's already outside waiting for me. I quickly got dressed in my best jeans, all stars and a top and headed outside. When finally got the club and it was packed. We saw our friends in the corner and joined them. We downed a couple of shots and I headed out the door for fresh air and saw a garage across the road and went in that direction. I saw a familiar car in the parking lot but didn't pay any attention to it. After I bought me a pie and a coke I went back outside and heard a familiar voice calling my name. I turned around and there he was out with one of his girl best friends and her girlfriend. "What are you doing here Cay? Who are you with?" I walked towards him and told him I'm with my cousin and just walked away. When I got back to the club my cousin was in a verbal fight with this other girl Nthabi. I immediately stepped in and tried to stop her and I felt a hand fly across my face and I lost it. As we're fighting one of our guy friends pulled me outside trying to calm me down. My cousin Andy also came outside and we were there standing I the rain talking about what had happened. I saw lights approaching and it's my ex's car pulling up. I stepped back behind a tree so he couldn't see me they where picking up this guy who was also with us . He got out of the car and went into the club. After a while he come out with the bestie Gabby and they talked in the car for a while when I saw this girl Nthabi approaching the car with one of her friends. They asked him if he could take them home in which he replied that he's waiting for his girlfriend. I saw red and when straight to them and pushed he aside. He looked at me with those beautiful black eyes and said that I looked real sexy in those jeans ... I blushed. We stood there talking for a while in which he said that I should call him when I wanted to go home and just said ok. He left and I went inside and continued partying.
It's past 12 now and the clubs closing. I took out my phone and called him so he could come fetch me. We waited outside for him to come fetch us. I got in the backseat and he yelled at me cause I know I'm his passenger princess to which all my drunk friends clapped their hands and whistled. We dropped everyone home and headed to my house where we just sat in the car and listened to music. I got out and he followed. We're standing at my gate now as he looked me in my eyes and said he wants to try something, before I could as what it was he kissed me. I pushed him away and grabbed him by the shirt and started kissing him back. We were leaning against the car as he lifted me up while kissing grabbing at my ass. I asked if he wanted to get in the car and he opened the back door if the car where we got in and started making out.
He took off my shirt and his as things were moving real fast and he looked at me and said " Cay. I love you and I don't want our first time to be in the backseat of my car". So we just layed there in each other's naked arms and talked about our life together. As his phone rings and his dad's voice echoes breaking the silence.
We got dressed, kissed each other goodnight and made plans for the next day.
THE NEXT DAY
I tried calling him but I got no response. I went that whole day trying to get hold of him but I got nothing. So my cousin suggested we go out again.
I spend the entire night wondering what the hell happened to the sweet guy from last night.
It's new years eve and I just got home from work. As I got ready for church that night I messaged him asking if we were gonna see each other but still no response. We went to church and counted down till midnight. When i finally saw him standing with the reason our relationship ended a year ago his girl best friend or as he claims his " sister" who obviously doesn't like me and has the massive crush on him.
I just greeted his a happy new year and headed out the door when I looked back him and my mother were still standing there talking. I felt so angry and sad the the same time. He lead me on and dangled me around like a puppet on a string. I spent that whole night in bed wondering what I did to make him react the way in which he did. As I closed my eyes almost asleep my cousin calls me saying I should come through to the kasi. I went and to my surprise there he was with her. Dancing and laughing like a couple. I saw remand headed in their direction hit her right in the nose and walked back and got in kay one of our friends cars and just sat there. I felt so betrayed and hurt that he chose to be with her on the start if a new year. Suddenly everything just went quiet that back I felt my heard pounce on something hard.
