Liam had been awoken by a loud, shrill scream. Emerging from his tent he saw one of his hunter friends being bitten by a vampire. In an instant, Liam had pulled out a stake from his tent and lunged at the pale creature, driving the stake into its heart. It stopped moving, becoming limp and colder than it already was. Liam spat on it and stood up, making sure to leave the stake in so that the vampire would stay dead. He checked on his friend, inspecting the bite. "I think you'll be okay, they aren't infectious through bites." After the commotion Liam headed back to his tent, ready to get some sleep. His group leader said that they were migrating to a different town to hunt witches instead of vampires, and Liam was quite excited as he had never seen a witch, let alone hunted one.
The morning came in a flash, and Liam was not ready. He woke up groggily, rubbing his eyes and yawning. He threw on some old clothes he had in his tent and began to take it down, putting everything he could into his bag so that he could be ready for the trip. Once ready, he started the journey with his group to the new town. He gazed in awe at the forest which surrounded them as they walked, and observed the glistening streams with excitement. The walk, although said to be dangerous, seemed more relaxing than anything to Liam. It did take quite a while to get to the town though, and by the time they were there Liam had nearly passed out from exhaustion. Sitting down with the rest of the group before they ate, the group leader passed a piece of paper to Liam. "This has all the instructions for the witches you are to hunt. Kill every last one Liam, alright?" the leader said gruffly, giving other people pieces of paper too. Liam read his, and it said:
Oakwood family. Red house, left side of town next to the church. Three children, one elderly woman and a middle-aged woman. Proceed with caution. To be killed as soon as possible.
Liam pocketed the piece of paper and made his way to the described house, noticing it almost immediately. It felt like the house was calling to him, and he was ready for it. He inspected the windows for any way to break in and upon finding none, he simply threw a brick through one of the windows. He entered the house, but his head immediately began to ring as the elderly woman stepped out of the shadows, holding her hand in front of her. "This is your first warning. Don't come back." The woman threw Liam out of the house with her magic, and he blacked out.
When he awoke he was back at camp with the others, as if nothing had happened. It had become even darker by this point, and most of the hunters were asleep. Liam decided to try and kill the family a second time, knowing they wouldn't have had time to fix the window. To his surprise once he reached the house, he found the window in perfect condition. He laughed, knocking on the door and pretending he was one of the children's friends. The eldest daughter answered the door, smiling. "Hey. You good?" Liam smirked slightly, straightening up.
"I'm okay. I'm a friend of your brothers. May I come in?" Liam responded, thinking his plan was working.
"Sure, come on in." Once the door had shut behind Liam, he realised he had walked into a trap. The woman stood in front of him again, as his vision began to fade in and out, the light around him dancing. The woman walked even closer to Liam, and knelt down to whisper in his ear.
"This is your second and final warning. I wouldn't want to find out what fate awaits you if you come back." Liam flew out of the front door, landing quite far away from the house. He was determined that no matter the woman's threats, he would kill the whole family as he was tasked to do. After a week of extensive training and labour, Liam went back to the house for a third and final time.
He didn't even knock, he just kicked the door in. The five were sat in the living room and turned when they heard the door. Liam was able to throw a knife at the youngest daughter, catching her shoulder, before he was quickly incapacitated by the mother, grandmother, and eldest daughter. The three began to chant, and Liam's limbs began to go numb. "This is what happens to those who can't keep out!" The elderly woman held her hands in the air, still chanting. A large gateway appeared behind Liam, as an alien roar erupted from his throat. He didn't even recognise himself.
He felt himself be thrown back and then he blacked out. As he fell in and out of consciousness, he could hear people scurrying around him.
As his eyes were going to close again, he caught glimpse of a nun holding a cross over him and saying, "He may be the one. He may be The Beast."
