Lena stood on the crowded subway platform, gripping the handle of her briefcase. She could feel the tension in her shoulders, the weight of invisible expectations pressing down on her. Every day felt like a battle - against the voices telling her she wasn't enough, against the system that seemed designed to push her aside, and, sometimes, against herself.

As the train roared into the station, Lena took a deep breath. She worked at a tech company, one of the few women in her department, and it often felt like she was living in a world that wasn't built for her. It wasn't just the subtle dismissals during meetings or the way her ideas were brushed aside until a male colleague said the same thing - it was the constant, gnawing sense that she was fighting for something others had been handed freely.

Today was different, though. Today, Lena had made a decision. She wasn't going to be silent anymore.

At the office, she walked into the conference room with her head held high. The board meeting was packed - executives, department heads, and her coworkers, most of whom barely acknowledged her presence. The topic on the agenda was the company's new project, one Lena had spent months working on, but her name was nowhere on the credits. She'd watched, powerless, as her male supervisor had taken her work and passed it off as his own. Today, she wasn't going to let that happen.

When the presentation began, Lena waited for the moment she knew was coming - the point where her supervisor would present her ideas, claiming them as his vision. As he spoke, outlining the new features and strategy, Lena's pulse quickened. This was her moment.

She stood up. The room fell silent.

"Excuse me," Lena said, her voice steady despite the nerves pulsing in her chest. "I'd like to clarify that the ideas you're presenting today are mine. I spent months developing them, and I believe I deserve recognition for my work."

A murmur spread across the room. Her supervisor froze, caught off-guard. For a moment, Lena thought he might dismiss her claim, brush her aside like always. But something in her eyes must have warned him not to - something stronger than the quiet woman he had overlooked for so long.

The CEO, seated at the head of the table, looked at Lena. "Is this true?" he asked.

Lena nodded. She spoke again, this time more firmly. "I've worked hard for this company, and I won't stand by while my contributions are erased. I'm asking for the credit I've earned."

There was a pause, the kind that feels like an eternity. Lena's heart pounded, but she didn't back down. She had come too far, fought too hard to shrink away now.

Finally, the CEO turned to her supervisor. "I think we need to revisit this," he said, his tone serious. "Lena, we'll review your work and ensure you get the recognition you deserve."

The tension in the room was palpable, but Lena felt a wave of relief wash over her. It wasn't the full victory yet, but it was a start. She had spoken up, and they had listened. As the meeting moved on, Lena sat down, her mind racing but her heart steady.

For the first time in a long time, she felt like she had taken control. She wasn't just surviving in a system that wasn't meant for her - she was changing it, one step at a time.

As the day ended and Lena walked out of the office building, the city stretched out before her, bustling and indifferent as always. But tonight, something felt different. The world hadn't changed overnight, but Lena had.

And that was enough to keep fighting.
