A Note to the Reader — There are people whose lives are measured by what they own. My father’s life was measured by what he gave away. This is not the story of a perfect man. Nor is it an attempt to preserve a flawless memory. It is the story of the father I knew—the man who raised me with quiet devotion, fierce discipline, generous love, and unwavering presence. After his passing, I discovered parts of his life that challenged my understanding of him. Rather than erase either truth, this memoir holds them side by side. It is my attempt to honour a life honestly: celebrating what deserves celebration, acknowledging what deserves reflection, and accepting that love is rarely simple. I have written these pages first as a daughter, then as a mother. Many memories belong only to us. Others belong to our entire family. Where privacy calls for discretion, details have been softened without changing the emotional truth. If, while reading, you find yourself remembering your own father, mother, grandparent, or child, then perhaps this book has done what I hoped it would. Because love, at its best, is never about one family alone.
