The news spread across the hostel before sunrise.

"Kwame's father is coming."

Students gathered in small groups along the corridors, whispering among themselves. Some dismissed the story as another piece of hostel gossip, while others were curious to see what would happen. By mid-morning, almost everyone in the hostel had heard about Room 14.

Kwame stood anxiously at the entrance of the hostel when a silver Toyota pulled into the compound.

His father stepped out.

He was a man in his late fifties, neatly dressed in a simple white shirt and dark trousers. His face was calm, his movements deliberate. There was nothing about him that suggested anger or panic.

He embraced his son.

"Are you alright?"

"I don't know, Dad," Kwame replied honestly. "Since I entered that room, I haven't been myself."

His father nodded gently.

"Then let us find out what happened."

The Hall Warden had already been informed.

Wanting to prevent rumours from getting out of hand, she invited a few senior members of the university administration to witness the meeting. Kojo and Sena were also summoned.

Shortly after noon, everyone assembled in the hostel's common room.

The atmosphere was tense.

The Hall Warden opened the meeting.

"We are here because of a complaint involving Room Fourteen. We want to hear from everyone involved before drawing any conclusions."

She turned to Kwame.

"Tell us exactly what happened."

Kwame recounted how he had mistakenly entered Room 14 while looking for a friend. He explained the strange conversation that followed, the ritual performed later that evening, and the fear that had driven him to call his father.

When he finished, all eyes turned to Kojo and Sena.

The two roommates remained silent for several moments.

Finally, Kojo spoke.

"What Kwame has said is true."

A murmur swept across the room.

Sena continued.

"We told him that our ginnys claimed to have taken something from him."

One of the university officials frowned.

"What exactly is a ginny?"

Kojo looked at Sena before answering.

"We don't fully understand ourselves. Years ago, while we were in Senior High School, we helped an old man we met on a lonely road. We expected nothing in return. Before leaving, he said he wanted to reward our kindness."

"He told us we would each receive a companion who would protect us."

"We thought he was blessing us."

Kojo lowered his head.

"But what came into our lives was something we could never explain."

The room became silent.

"They have stayed with us ever since," Sena added. "They warn us of danger. They reveal things we could not possibly know. But they also act on their own."

"Like yesterday?" the Hall Warden asked.

The two young men nodded.

"We did not ask them to do anything to Kwame."

Another silence followed.

Kwame's father had not spoken once since the meeting began.

He simply listened.

Then, for the first time, he raised his head.

"May I ask my own question?"

The Hall Warden nodded.

He looked directly at Kojo and Sena.

"If these companions are truly with you..."

"...ask them why they touched my son."

The words had barely left his mouth when the atmosphere in the room changed.

A sudden gust of wind rattled the windows.

The fluorescent lights flickered.

Several people instinctively looked around.

Kojo gripped the arms of his chair.

Sena closed his eyes tightly.

Both young men began trembling.

Their breathing became heavy.

Then, almost together, they stood.

When they spoke again, their voices sounded different—deeper, firmer, almost as though another presence was speaking through them.

One official quickly stood up.

"What is happening?"

No one answered.

The room had become deathly still.

The two young men slowly turned toward Kwame's father.

For several long seconds they stared at him without blinking.

Then something remarkable happened.

The trembling stopped.

The expressions on their faces changed from confidence to fear.

Without warning, both young men dropped to their knees.

Their voices returned to normal.

"Forgive us," Kojo whispered.

"We did not know who you were," Sena added, tears filling his eyes.

Everyone in the room watched in stunned silence.

Later, some of those present would say that the ginnys had recognised a spiritual authority greater than their own. Others believed the young men had simply been overcome by emotion.

No explanation satisfied everyone.

Kwame's father slowly walked towards them.

He looked at the frightened students kneeling before him.

Then he spoke softly.

"You are young men with your whole lives ahead of you. Whatever has happened, let today be the end of it."

He stretched out his hands.

"Stand up."

Kojo and Sena hesitated.

"I forgive you."

Those simple words seemed to lift a burden from the room.

The two roommates rose slowly to their feet, tears streaming down their faces.

For the first time in many years, the whispers that had always filled their minds were gone.

The silence was complete.

Whether the ginnys had departed forever or merely withdrawn, neither Kojo nor Sena could tell.

But deep inside, they knew one thing.

Their lives would never be the same again.

Outside the common room, students waited anxiously for news.

When the door finally opened, Kwame, his father, Kojo, and Sena walked out together.

No one asked what had happened.

No one needed to.

The expressions on their faces told the story.

And from that day forward, Room 14 was no longer just another room in the hostel.
