On an April evening, calm yet strange,
In Nairobi’s heart, the world would change.
I boarded the matatu at OTC,
A city alive, yet it felt just for me.
Through the clamour of voices, the honk and shout,
A presence, serene, cast the noise out.
She sat beside me, radiant, bright,
Her beauty a glow in the soft morning light.
Her skin kissed by the sun’s warm grace,
Hair flowing like silk, a timeless trace.
Her eyes, like stars, held mystery deep,
In that crowded space, the world fell asleep.
I stole glances, my heart racing fast,
A battle of fear, would this moment last?
"Speak to her," one voice softly said,
"No, she’ll never look twice," another led.
"This is your fate," the boldest cried,
But my courage faltered, fear couldn't hide.
The matatu swayed, its journey complete,
And she stepped off at Kwa Chief’s beat.
My heart leaped—was this destiny true?
I followed her steps, unsure what to do.
At the corner we met, almost colliding,
I stammered, my heart wide and hiding.
"Excuse me," I whispered, voice unsure,
"Can I speak with you, if you're secure?"
She paused, with kindness in her eyes,
"Yes?" she asked, her smile a surprise.
"I’m Mwachache," I said, feeling bold,
"May I know you better? A story to be told?"
Her laugh was soft, her gaze so kind,
She gave her number, my fears left behind.
In that simple act, I felt reborn,
A chance had come, a love was born.
In weeks that followed, our hearts would bloom,
Her words filled the silence of gloom.
Her honesty pure, her laugh a song,
I listened to her life, where she belonged.
She spoke of children, a past that stung,
Yet through it all, her spirit sung.
She invited me in, her family to meet,
I walked in nervous, but joy in my feet.
Her father’s gaze, stern yet polite,
Her sister’s energy, a spark in the night.
The house, though humble, held warmth so true,
And as I sat there, my love only grew.
Later, as night fell, we spoke heart to heart,
Of dreams, of fears, of life’s quiet art.
No rush to the moment, no need to explain,
Our bond deepened, free of disdain.
When the time came, we moved as one,
Her children, her world, now mine begun.
I walked in unsure, a piece to complete,
Her home, her life, where our hearts would meet.
But love, I learned, was not always clear,
In her world, doubts would reappear.
Her father’s glance, though warm, was unsure,
Her children’s questions, hard to endure.
Truphena, the light, balanced all with grace,
Her resilience a gift, her smile a trace.
But I, at times, felt small and torn,
Wondering if I was ready, or if I’d mourn.
One evening, under Nairobi’s sky,
She sensed my struggle, no need to deny.
"Talk to me," she whispered, voice so true,
And I confessed, my heart split in two.
"Sometimes, I feel like I don’t belong,
A piece in your life, but not where I’m strong."
She took my hand, her touch so sure,
"You’re not an extra, you’re the one I adore."
Her words healed wounds, gave me the strength,
To love her fully, go the full length.
But love’s path is never quite clear,
And challenges soon would reappear.
Her past, her ex, came back to claim,
Not love, but presence, a quiet aim.
Jealousy stirred, my heart filled with doubt,
Would I stand firm, or would I break out?
Truphena, with grace, took the lead,
She eased my mind, helped me to heed.
"His role is past, but the children need him near,
But you’re the one, with whom I’ll persevere."
Through struggles, we grew, tested but true,
I knew then, I wanted her life too.
Not just as a lover, but as a wife,
To share in her world, her story, her life.
And so, I planned beneath the sun,
A simple gesture, our journey begun.
At the place where fate first met our eyes,
I asked her, under Nairobi skies:
"Truphena, you’ve shown me love’s true face,
A home, a family, a sacred place.
Will you marry me, and make this right?
To walk together, through day and night?"
Her tears fell softly, her answer clear,
"Yes, Mwachache, I’ll always be near."
Our wedding day, a joy profound,
Her children, her father, all gathered ‘round.
A celebration, love’s pure embrace,
Trust and laughter, our hearts interlaced.
Life, as always, was not without fight,
But together, we stood, in love’s guiding light.
Through challenges, through doubts, through tears,
We built our home, defying the years.
For in each struggle, in each test,
We found the strength, and we knew we were blessed.
In Wendy, I found not just my fate,
But a love, unbroken, a bond so great.
