One fine Saturday, my wife and I were at a saree shop. From past experience, I knew saree shopping was a long journey, so I had mentally prepared myself to dedicate the whole day. But to my surprise, my wife was shopping unusually fast - after all, she was buying for my side of the family this time!
While she was busy selecting, I observed another lady who had been browsing sarees even before we walked in. The poor sales guy had practically emptied the entire tray onto the table for her. At one point, he even asked, "Madam, what exactly is on your mind? We'll help you find it." I couldn't help but wonder about her husband. Lucky man must've escaped today!
Just then, another lady walked in - dressed in style, holding an expensive handbag, clearly someone used to attention. Without a second thought, she picked up a saree that the first lady had been holding for a while and said, "Beautiful color. Please bill this one for me."
What happened next was gold. The first lady snatched the saree back, looked at both the saree and the stylish woman up and down a few times, and said sharply, "I selected this first. Please bill it for me."
The well-dressed woman looked taken aback but didn't argue - she just walked away silently. I was still in the same spot, patiently waiting while my wife continued her saree hunt.
A few minutes later, that same stylish lady came back - this time with a smile for the sales rep. He smiled back and said warmly, "Thank you, owner madam."
Moral of the story: Even in selling, tactics matter.
