The door in front of me creaked open, a smile made its way on my lips to see my aunt through the slightly ajar door. She pushed the door a little more wider and walked in. I followed her inside closing the door behind me, making sure to not make a loud noise but failed. I wandered in the massive hall, large dark curtains covered all the windows. Despite the blarring bright afternoon sun outside the house. It was dark, very dark. Curious I looked up and was astonished to notice there were no lights. Feeling uneasy, I walked to the window to check outside but before I could slide the curtain to aside my aunt stopped me. Her voice was loud rough and it was a warning. I did stop and I turned. She passed me as gentle smile, wrapped her arms around me and walked me to the dining room.
I took my seat and she sat beside me.
As, I reached for the food, she stopped my hand. Wait, she whispered. I nodded and obeyed. Staring ahead at the wall, I waited till she gave the word to eat.
After a few minutes, she stood abruptly and rushed to the staircase in the hall. Peeping outside to see her, the way she scurried showed her anticipation. I walked to end of the dinig room and peeped at the side of the wall to see her by the stairs railings, she smiles looking ahead, her chin lofted a bit like looking up at someone. She giggles, chuckles, blushes and laughs like she was told a joke. Then she stepped ahead and and stretched her arms. She walked towards the dining room with an arm stretched in the air like as if she was holding someone's hand. I rushed back to my seat before she could find me peeping at her and I pretended like I saw nothing. She sat beside me.
And my body froze, terror stuck up to my throat and I stayed there motionless. I don't know what was happening but I couldn't see it. I couldn't see anything of it but she patted on the seat next to her and told, Sit beside me dear. She then looked at me with a gigantic grin and gestured me to eat.
I couldn't, I couldn't make a move. I couldn't do anything because what was that? What was that sitting next to her? I couldn't see it, but from the way behaves is like there is something. She served me as I didn't, she served and the plate next to hers. For whom was that? Chills ran down my spine when she leaned to her left to the empty seat, and asked, Is the food tasty?
I was confused, to whom is she talking to? What's wrong with her? I thought she was fine and I believed she was fine for mum to send me here but she isn't. Is she mentally affected due to the loss of her husband? Does she need a therapist? Should I ask her about it? But how how am I supposed to talk to her about it?
I managed to make an appetite as she forced me to and once everything was done I insisted on doing the dishes. I carried the dishes and went to the kitchen. She followed me behind and informed me about the destination of my room and ordered me to not go down to the basement. I was curious. I asked her why and she told me it's unclean down there.
After I did the dishes. I went to my room and I stayed in there for hours as I talking to mom. I told her about aunt's bizarre behaviour but she told that aunt is totally fine. She told maybe is pranking me. But thay never seemed like a prank.
After a long conversation I needed water to moisten my throat so I walked out of my room and down to the kitchen. It was seven in the evening and as I was curious earlier, the house was dark, totally dark, darker than a normal power out place. Using ghe flash light of ny phone I searched for switches and even though that I've founded them when I switched it on there were no lights that brightened.
I walked to the kitchen, my footsteps echoing in the silent environment and when I opened the tap. I heard it, I heard someone walking. Shivers ran down my spine and I froze at that moment, I couldn't move. I just stayed with the tap opened, the glass underneath it, the water overflowing. I couldn't stop thinking about it. My heartbeat fastened and it reverberated in my ear.My phone which was on the counter flashed up to the ceiling. My toes curled when my eyeballs lifted up the brightened part to notice something walking towards me. My hair stood up and I held my breath, feeling its presence. It walked behind me and I felt it pass behind me and the air, I felt it on my skin, it was like breath.
My eyes never left the ceiling where the flashlight was brightened helping me to take a glimpse of the figure, a shadow of a human. My gaze followed its movement. It crossed the large table behind me and exited. I finally breathe out and my shoulders hunch. My heart still pounding in my ears. My hair still standing out, my legs still weak and me body temperature rised.
Now I don't think I can be here. It freaked me out every second so I rushed upstairs to my room. I took my belongings and I went out. I needed tell aunt or else she would be worried about me. So I knocked at her room door and I froze again. She giggles and moaned. I heard it, I heard her begging to stop. Her voice was in pleasure.
Sweat beads formed on my forehead and my lip quivered. I trembled back, back and back. I didn't know what I should do in a dark house with my aunt and something else. I ran downstairs with my torch on and I stopped at the sight of the specific door, the door of the basement.
The basement! She told me not to go down there, but what was in there?
I pushed the door and luckily it wasn't locked to my surprise. I held the torch forward and walked down the stairs. The wooden staircase wasn'tin roo old to expose me with the creak. I went down and down. Finally when I reached close to the floor. I regretted the next moment.
The basement was bright to my surprice, many candles were lighted around a no-mattress bed. Didn't know why I did it but a voice inside me told me to see it! So, I moved towards the bed, to see what needed light as neither part of this house had light. My feet rooted on the spot, my throat went dry, my legs were wobbly and I trembled back.
It was my Uncle! His body laying on the bed? His dead body! I remember him being buried. But how? Did she dig up the body?
After her husband died she still lived with him. It's been a year of the car crash and since then she never left home. She was in love him, deeply in love, madly in love, obsessed in love. His deatg was difficult for her to digest, and she couldn't even think of a life without him. So to live with him, she did somethingshe shouldn't have. She broke the wall between the unseen world and awakened a demon. Casting it to be a husband. She could see it and she knew that appearance was not her husband's. She did everything with it. She thought she was controlling it, but ironically, it was controlling her.
My eyes widened in horror and immediately I turn around mat the noise. Blood drains from my face, it was my aunt and what piqued me was not her, it was the one behind her. I saw it. The burned face, the invisible eyes and the darkness around it.
I took my seat and she sat beside me.
