One evening, as they stood on a bridge overlooking the Seine, the city lights reflecting off the water, Zed finally mustered the courage to speak. "Katie, I need to tell you something," he began, his voice trembling. "I've been struggling with something for a long time, and I can't keep it inside anymore."
Katie looked at him, her eyes filled with concern and curiosity. "What is it, Zed?"
Zed took a deep breath, tears welling up in his eyes. "I've fallen in love with you, Katie. I know it's forbidden because we're siblings, and I've tried my best to stop it, but I can't. It's tearing me apart."
Katie's eyes widened in shock, her heart pounding in her chest. "Zed, I? I don't know what to say."
Zed's tears began to flow freely as he continued. "I never wanted to hurt you, Katie. I've been fighting these feelings, but they won't go away. I'm so sorry."
Katie felt a whirlwind of emotions - anger, sadness, and confusion. But as she looked at Zed, she saw the raw pain in his eyes and knew he was being honest. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her voice. "Zed, I need to confess something too."
Zed looked at her, his heart heavy with guilt. "What is it?"
Katie hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I've been struggling with my own feelings. I've been falling for you too, Zed. And it's been tearing me apart because I know it's wrong."
Zed's eyes widened in surprise. "Katie, I had no idea. I'm so sorry for everything."
Katie's voice broke as she continued. "I've been trying to push these feelings away, but it's been so hard. I don't know how to move forward from this."
Zed reached out and took her hand, his tears mingling with hers. "Katie, I never wanted to hurt you. I care about you so much, and I hate that I've caused you pain."
Katie squeezed his hand, her heart aching. "I care about you too, Zed. But we need to find a way to move past this. We can't keep hurting each other like this."
Zed nodded, his heart swelling with determination. "Katie, what if by some chance we weren't siblings? Do you think we could go on with our feelings?"
Katie looked at him, her eyes filled with sorrow. "I wish I could rewrite our destiny to be like that, Zed, but I can't. We have to stop this before Mom and Dad notice."
Zed's heart sank, but he knew she was right. "I understand. We'll find a way to move forward."
Katie smiled through her tears, feeling a sense of relief. "Thank you, Zed. I believe we can."
As they walked back to their hotel, they both felt a renewed sense of hope. The journey ahead would be challenging, but they were ready to face it together. Paris had given them a fresh start, and they were determined to make the most of it.
