When the situation boils down to writing, I search for a handy tool with desperation. Can you guess what it is?
I give you 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds to think over it. If you feel puzzled while finding the apt answer, I am here to reveal the secret while I enjoy the hot cappuccino on this rainy night.
The roadside lampposts, motionless trees, the dark stretch of the silent road, everything is drenched, but my flair for writing isn't?.
The moment a thought pops up in my mind, I open up my personal drawer and pick up a PENCIL half used, half chewed, head dull or sharp, or whatever state it may be in, I need the one badly.
When the pencil rolls over a virgin piece of paper, it expresses its feelings too. Sometimes authoritative, sometimes dizzy, occasionally playful! The reactions I sense give me the pleasure of revisiting my schooldays where learning is prioritized within the ambit of discipline. With a pencil in hand, I stay mindful.
When I prepare my first draft, I find the pencil helpful. It allows me to write with spontaneity. If I am stuck somewhere and have to make a correction, I can erase the unwanted sentence or the paragraph with ease.
Sometimes, thinking the plots in the mind may not trigger the narrative mood. In that crisis, I prepare a rough sketch to facilitate elaboration. This way I enjoy writing with a pencil irrespective of the age, profession and cognitive abilities.
What about you? Do you prefer pen or pencil while you write?
