You can call me Nkechi Ngozi, popularly called Double N, born during the civil war. My mum and my dad died during that time. I lost my both parents in a fire incident when our village was set ablaze and i became a fugitive and orphan in a far away land named Eko.
Eko was a busy city, It was hustle and bustle. In Eko, the slogan was 'No work, No Food'. In Eko, I was forced to learn Or'uba which was the main language of Eko. If your work resumed 6am, you would have to leave by 4am unless you get to your office by 9am.
In my office, I was stigmatized by some of the persons at my place of occupation because of my scar on the side of my scar from fire, it affected my face than any other part of my body but still had minor marks on my legs downwards that was why i always wear trousers but the scar on my face could not be covered and it was obvious then i got an idea to be using makeup, the makeup covered it. I was on makeup and because of that boys always followed me as chicks always following the mother hen but there was one boy i liked, his name was Philip, he came newly into the organisation.
Philip was every woman dream, he was fair, handsome and tall. He was also kind and genuine, also humble to the heart. His personality was one of a kind. After work, he always dropped me off to my house.
While i was in the car, about to come down, he told me to come down, he told me he wanted to marry me.
I laughed and replied saying
''You want to marry me?
''I am not joking, i am serious i really want to marry you and i can do anything for you''
he said
'' Can you marry a rejected woman?
I asked
''My dear, don't worry you are beautiful the way you are
He said
I smiled and gave him no response, opening the car
It was Saturday morning, i heard a knock on the door, i hurriedly opened the door and i saw Philip. Philip was shocked and disgusted with me, immediately he rejected me.
''Oh my God, you are so ugly and imagine you have a scar, no way, you are a red flag i cannot marry you'' and left hurriedly
He said
I tried running after him but he pushed me on the floor, i ran inside and cried then the episode of the thought started coming up, i was thinking about the war, how i escaped the fire outbreak. I became sober and depressed drinking all night
For days i did not come outside, then something happened i decided to go out to a place where they would accept me, so i wrote a resignation letter and submitted it, they were all shocked including Philip. Philip tried to cause a scene i shut him up with silence and that day i saw my father brother, he was one of them that escaped the fire incident, he also had scars on his side of his face. I told him my story and he was a C.E.O of Special Future Media, he made me the Managing Director in the company, despite my scar they all accepted and respected me.
One Faithful day, I was invited to speak at the Special Future Media Conference where all calibers of people gathered including my former boss and some of my ex-colleagues, they were all shocked to see me and these were my words
''Good day media personalities, My C.E.O Mr. Joseph Chidi and distinguished ladies and gentlemen, It is an honour to stand before you all today. I want to specially thank Mr. Joseph Chidi, my boss and my uncle who put me in the frontline of the media despite my deformity. I was rejected by all but him and his great team accepted me while all hope were lost. My encouragement for you all is Your deformity should not be an excuse to your inconsistency and laziness, it might not be easy but at the end you will rejoice. I leave you with these words YOU WOULD MAKE IT from your friend NGOZI NKECHI also known as Double N.
After the speech, people applauded me, camera shutter sound everywhere. I was the spotlight like a model who goes for a parade and interviewed by many journalists and i was about entering my car then Philip stopped me and begged and unfortunately my bouncers kicked him out, indeed that served him right.
My love journey was not also left out, a boy who had a medical condition Virtiligo, got attracted to me, we got married and had kids.
Remember not all flowers, butterflies perches on . THE END
