My name is Jake, and I have a dog named Kyle. Every morning before school I walk my dog. I walk my dog this early because it takes an hour to get to school. I take him to a park, where there's a park that connects to a forest. It's still dark since it's only 5:43 in California. There is no one here but me and Kyle like always, just how I like it. "SNAP", I turn around to see if there was someone there and didn't see anything, so I pulled out my phone and turned on my flashlight and pointed it towards some bushes, where I heard the noise, that's when the bush started to shake. I picked up a stick nearby just in case I needed to swing to save my behind. That's when a rabbit jumped out. I let out a tiny scream, but instantly covered my mouth, looking around to make sure no one saw what just happen. I sighed "dumb rabbit," I said, feeling embarrassed and foolish.
We started to walk to the house, that's when I realized the sun started to come up. "Dang it," we had to run to the house. When we got there, my mom was already in the car waiting for me. I put Kyle in the house, and waved goodbye to him, then rushed out the door. "Where's your phone? I was calling you, hurry up, we are both going to be late," Mom said. My mom works at a hospital from seven in the morning all the way until one at night. We don't have that much money, and we have been struggling, so it's been hard for us lately, exactly since my dad left two years ago to make a new family. He promised my mom and me he would never leave, he did though, that's one of the reason our life went down. Then my mom started drinking, but don't worry she promise me she wouldn't do it no more. As we finally got to my school, I hopped out of the car and was about to get ready to run when my mom called me. I turned around and hurried and gave her a hug as she kissed me on my forehead. "Have a great day, sweetie, mama loves you", mom said, "I love you too". I turned around and ran inside. When I got inside, I stopped running and started speed walking. The bell already rang, and everybody was already in class. As I finally got to my class and opened the door, I could already feel people staring at me. "Oh, Jake, you're here, what a good time we were getting ready to take a test, go sit down" the teacher said, me just nodding then heading to my seat, I felt so nervous because I had never been late before. "If it wasn't for that rabbit who distracted me, I would have been here early," I thought.
After we got done with the test, we could do whatever we wanted. People started turning and getting up to talk to their friends, as I sat in the back alone. As I looked at the popular kids, I really wondered how it will feel to make friends. I was never good at making friends and when I try, I always end up getting laughed at or just ignored, but today I will have courage, and I will make new friends. As I got up from my seat, I went to the table where the popular kids were sitting. They saw me coming, and I started to hear laughs. Then I hear, "Look, the classroom weirdo is coming to talk to us," I hear more laughs. I acted as if I wasn't going towards them and walked past them. As I felt a paper ball hit my head, "Ugly weirdo, why does he stank? Doesn't his mom love him enough to tell him," One bully said, "Am pretty sure, I saw his mom in a bar last night," a second bully said, "Imagine, I bet his mom doesn't love him," the third bully said. They said it so loud everybody heard them and started laughing. The teacher didn't do nothing he just let them. I ran out of the classroom and ran to the bathroom. I went into one of the stalls and stayed there the whole hour crying and feeling frustrated, wondering why they hate me so much what did I ever do to them. I only have mom and Kyle. As the hour was finally over, I went to the rest of my classes trying to keep my mind off of what happened that early morning. At the end of the school day, I was still in class when the bell rang. It was time to go home as I started to grab my things. I feel someone push me which knocks over all my things when I bump into the desk, "Why don't you stop trying? You'll be better off alone and by yourself you pig" a bully said, they laughed and walked away. I wanted to cry but I didn't I just waited till I got home. I have to walk home since mom is at work, I told myself mom doesn't drink, she promised she wouldn't drink anymore, am not sure if that's any true though.
As I make it home, I can already hear Kyle barking for me. I smiled as I opened the door, and he jumped on me. "Hey, boy, you miss me?, You're my best friend, you do know that, right?" I said petting him. As I get up from the floor, I go to the kitchen and wash my hands. Then I sat my stuff on the kitchen table then headed to my room to change my clothes. I went back downstairs to make dinner, then went to do my homework, as I listen to music, when I was done, I watch television till I fall asleep. When my mom got home, I woke up, I heated up her food as she took off her stuff and sat down at the kitchen table. "Here you go mom, I hope you like it" "Thank you baby", as I watch her take the first bite, she looks at me, "it's wonderful Jake, I am so glad I have a son like you". I smiled at her, then I started to remember what those kids said. "Mom, are you drinking again?" I said with my head down mumbling. "What baby speak up, I couldn't hear you" mom said. I lifted up my head, and said "are you drinking again" mom stopped drinking and put down her glass of water, then she looked at me "honey who told you that" "Mom, you promised me, is that why you have been coming home late?" " I know, I promise you but, life gets hard sometimes and that's just how I deal with it okay Jake" " no, no it's not okay you promise me, and you broke it, first it was dad, now you, this is why kids don't like me" "what" "nothing mom" "what do the kids be saying to you Jake?" "Nothing mom, don't worry about it". I said walking away, as I heard mom calling me fading, I went upstairs to my room and shut my room door and laid on my bed just thinking.
Chapter Two
As I woke up the next day, tired with my eyes red and dark circles under my eyes from staying up late for mom and crying, I felt bad for yelling at my mom, so I got up and went downstairs and made breakfast like always for us. After I made breakfast, I brought it to her. When I opened her door, I saw that she was already awake, pacing back and forth. When she saw me, she ran to me and started to apologize, but I told her that there was nothing to apologize for. It was my fault for yelling, but in the end we both apologized and ate our breakfast. I started the routine like always and started to walk my dog, when we got to the park, I heard rattling in the bushes again. I walked towards it and pointed out my flashlight ready for the rabbit to jump out, but before anything can happen Kyle pulled the leash running after whatever was there. I made a mistake and let the leash go while he was pulling on it, now he's loose and I'm running after him. When I finally caught him, I realized we were in the middle of the forest and lost. As I looked around with the flashlight still on, trying to see if there was a pathway out. That's when I heard something. I turned around and saw nothing, but I walked towards where I heard the noise to see if it was the rabbit. When I moved the bushes, I saw a cave looks like a big boulder in the ground with a dark circle that looked like it could swallow you whole. Even when I pointed my flashlight in it, I still couldn't see it nothing but darkness.
As I started to walk towards it, Kyle pulled away like he was scared as I looked back at it. I couldn't tell why but I did want to do some exploring like Dora. I calmed down Kyle and he decided to follow me in. When we walked into the open cave, I blacked out. When I woke up, I saw a bright blue sky filled with clouds, the sun shining, the wind blowing, everything quiet. Turning my head, I saw Kyle right there beside me, he's not a dog but a human. I can tell it's him I know it sounds weird, but I did, by his eyes, they're calm, collated but just confused, he turns to me. Now we're both looking at each other. That's when someone came up to us "hello, are you two okay" the person asked, we sat up looking at the person. "Hi, I'm Queen Jamie, my guards said they saw you fall from the sky," as we observe her and her bodyguards that came with her, me and Kyle could see that they looked different from us, but so did we to them, "what's going on". I wondered as my mind trying to figure out what's happening, "that's what I would like to know," the Queen said. So, I decided to explain what happen before me and Kyle got here. After explaining, she looked a little confused but understood how confused and frustrated I must be feeling.
After she explained what she does here, she shows me and Kyle around the village, when we got to her castle it was big, like homages it was purple and blue mix with red, green and yellow. But it was all made out of candy, when we finally headed inside it was even bigger inside somehow, then she offer us some food to us, we sat down and ate, then we started to talk "so how are you two feeling about are town now" the queen asked "its super cool" I respond "we should be going though" Kyle said, Kyle have always been older than me in dog years being 15 years old, but now me and him look the same age even though am 12, "why, are you sure you don't want to stay here" the queen asked, "yes am sure and we should go now" Kyle said I could tell he didn't want to be here any longer so I agreed but before we could get up and go, the queen asked us if we want one more drink before we go, we didn't want to seem rude so we said okay, when I drunk it I started to feel dizzy, then I blacked out.
When I woke up, I was in a room, the bed felt hard and was sticky, it also look like it made of candy, as I look around the room and don't see Kyle, I jumped out of bed and ran out the door running down the long hallways looking for another door to go in, the halls seems to be getting longer, that's when I ac see something not just something anymore but someone, someone who's running down the other side of the hallway, running weird and faster each time I blink, as I froze in place they got closer, to the point I could make out their face, it looked pale white smiling ear to ear growing bigger limbs going everywhere as they ran, that's when I started to back up then I tripped as I hit the ground everything went dark. When I woke up Kyle was by me watching me, when he saw my eyes open he pulled his index finger to his mouth and told me to shush, so I did then he told me to get out of bed and told me to follow him so I did that as well, we left out the room and snuck down the stairs, we got by the door ready to open it and leave, that's when the queen saw us and ask us what are we doing "were leaving" Kyle said "why though" the queen said, "we don't feel safe here that's why" he wasn't completely wrong because of that drink we had, we never left and ended up spending a night, "oh was it because of the drinks I gave you two last night" "what else would it be" " oh, Kyle I just didn't want the two of you leaving late at night and I knew I wouldn't be able to stop y'all so, I am sorry for what I did to you two" the queen said, we both looked at each other " it's okay I understand that you was worried for us" I said, Kyle still didn't believe her nor did he wanted to stay any longer but he did for me.
After that we sat down at the table talking while Kyle was still quite, " how would you like to do a favor for me" the queen said, " like what" I said " a quest" "how many" " only 15" "so you gone have a 12 year old boy do quests, and for what, can't you have your guards do it" Kyle said, she looked puzzled " well it's for a reason" "and what's the reason to it then huh Ms. Queen" Kyle said sounding rude, "I'll do it" I said "oh you will" she said as she got up, "thank you so much Mr. Jake I'll be forever grateful". I only agree so they will stop arguing, she smiled as she grab my hands, I couldn't help but blush and smiled since this is the first time I hold hands with a girl, Kyle looked jealous and mad ever since we got here, "well start tomorrow" "okay" I said, for the rest of the day we just talked and have fun well really me and the queen Kyle stayed back but not too far to leave me alone with her. "I promise it's only 15 and it will be fun and easy, after you're done, I promise I'll help you get home" "you pinky promise" "I pinky promise". I really wish I would have listened to Kyle or none of this would have happened.
Chapter Three
As the new day begin, ready for the quest, to make these quest shorter the first three was easy but as time went on, they got harder and worser. I've been hurt and almost died, I've been traumatized and loss half of my hearing, losing one of my arms, we've been here over 9 months already risking our lives. As we go back to the castle Kyle was mad we went straight to the princess room and slam the door open, "SLAM" as I tried to stop him, it was too late, she look at us confused "It's going to be a year soon and we still here going on quest risking our lives for you who we barely know and for people who barley give two *beep* about you" Kyle said as she gasped " how dear you talked to your queen that way" she said mad "queen?, queen! you have never been our queen and you never will be" he said firm and determined in his voice, "Jake talked to you friend here", as what he was saying finally got through to me I realized she used us we was never gone go home, "he's right.., you lied, you only said fifteen YOU MADE US DO MORE THEN FIFTHTEEN, CAUSE YOU KNOW I WAS GULLIBLE, YOU ONLY SAW KINDNESS IN ME AND TOOK OVER THAT, YOU TWISTED BASTARD" I said, " how DARE YOU YELL AT YOUR QUEEN, GUARDS GET THEM, if you think you was going to go somewhere then you definitely aren't going nowhere now, take them to the dungeons" Kyle took my hand and we started to run, as they ran after us, I felt so mad at myself to think I was doing good just to learn I was being use like how I use to be, Kyle pulled me up the stairs, then, we ran to the roof we lock the door behind us blocking it.
When we got on the roof all the way away from the door, we looked at each other, me and him both could tell we were both scared that it might be the last time we might see each other again. as we stand there that's when we started to feel and rumble under our feet that's when we saw her we saw the princess grow bigger than her castle streaming as she grow we started to fall of the roof as we hit the ground I couldn't see Kyle anywhere because of the smoke that's was everywhere "KYLE, KYLE" I screamed "KYLE WHERE ARE YOU" I was crying, that's when all the smoke cleared, I saw him he was hurt and he was limping, I started to run to him when "STOMP" I stopped and drop down to the ground looking at the spot where the foot stomp at as the foot lifted up you know no one can survive that, he dead, crying bending down holding my chest crying my eyes out, "you should've just kept your mouth quite boy all you had to do is listen and keep going but no you made me do this" she said trying to make me feel the blame for what she had done "no.. this is your fault YOU KILLED YOUR WHOLE VILLAGE AND MY BEST FRIEND YOU MADE US GO ON DANGEROUS QUEST FOR YOUR STUPID ENTERTAINMENT " I said yelling at her trying not to cry, "YOU LITTLE BRAT" she said as she ran towards me, I stood there didn't move or nothing " I know this isn't real so go ahead" I said as I closed my eyes I hear her running towards me the stomping gets closer, closer than "stomp".
When I woke up there was bright lights everywhere I hear people talking but can't make out the words I feel something under my hand, my head thumping from pain, then it went dark, when I finally woke up again everything was so quiet then the first time I woke up, when I turned my head, I can see my mom sitting down next to me sleep in the chair, I turned the other way I see people walking past the door and the windows. That's when I realized I'm in a hospital, that's when my mom woke up to see me moving and looking at her, she was crying, and she got up to hug me not to tight but to the point where I can still feel her heartbeat. She started to call the doctors and they came in and check my health head and body to make sure am okay they gave me medicine for my headaches after finally being discharged from the hospital a mouth later it turns out how I ended up in the hospital was because I was getting followed at the park the one day and they took advantage of my being lost in the middle of the woods to hit me so when I was looking at the rock they hit me in the back of my head with hammer he didn't hit me hard enough to kill me but it did still go deep, but Kyle saved me even though he was badly hurt from the person who tried to kill me he still found help and led them all the way to me but sadly he didn't make it, I miss him so much my best friend who always been there for me died saving me, and saved me in my dream plenty of times, I really wish I could have said I love him one last time before he went to heaven " I love you Kyle". After a couple of weeks being at home I finally got to go back to school In a new grade and looking different I felt it was gone be the same as last year but no when I went to my class all the people there that used to make fun of me started to apologize but some didn't bother and still talked behind my back. But you know what that tells me they don't care for you till you die and some just hate just to hate on you even if you almost die they don't care things happen in this world which is said so many people die each and every day because of people and in that dream it tells me I need to stop letting people fight my own battles and stand up for myself even if it means if I get hurt it's better to stand then sit down and take the pain.
