Favour is an eighteen (18) years old boy who hails from Abia state but was born and brought up in Lagos, Nigeria with big bag of enormous dreams also, being the only male child from his family with two female siblings he knew he had a huge goal to accomplish which also includes studying, staying and working abroad since that was part of the heights he wants to attain in his young life and career as a whole. Favour was 15 years of age when he finished his secondary school education across his community, he also attended an after school lesson in order to pass his WASSCE and UTME exams in order to gain an admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria, he never wanted to stay at home for another lengthy duration of time when his mates were being admitted.
After Favour was done writing his WASSCE exams and UTME exams he had to wait patiently for an admission into the university to which he desired, during that period of time which he spent waiting for admission he went ahead to learn a vocational training in order not to be idle, in July Favour decided to go into Graphic Designing in order to become an expertise in it but his supervisor never wanted him to learn it due to unforeseen reasons. One particular afternoon, Favour was making a design for one of his customers in his supervisor workplace and everything was going smoothly until she came around and started sending Favour on an errand just to deprive him of learning what he came to learn so when Favour got home that day he told his mum about what happened but she told him to endure for the main time and that's how most supervisors do most especially here in Nigeria, Favour endured his supervisors nonchalant behaviour till he left that particular vocational training centre in order to focus more on his admission. After patiently waiting for eight(8) months he was eventually given an admission in Lagos State University upon seeing this he was over excited, he accepted the admission, paid his acceptance fee, medical fee, and online clearance fee and went on to share the good news his mother, father, grandparents and siblings, everyone was overwhelmed with joy because he was the second child going to attend the same university amongst the grandchildren, everyone in the family was excited. Few days later, Favour started preparing because resumption was around the corner and he had to prepare on time so as to get to the lecture hall on time in order not to miss lectures, on the day of resumption Favour went out as early as possible since he was still going from home but was delayed due to traffic, when he eventually go to the school gate he hurried to his lecture hall so as not to miss the Freshers Orientation for 100level students.
Favour's initial course of study was Business Administration but due to some deficiencies in his WASSCE results which needed a pass or credit in the compulsory subjects needed to study Business Administration he was given Guidance and Counselling Education instead, Favour never liked the Guidance and Counselling Educational course that was offered to him against his choice so he decided to transfer from Guidance and Counselling Education, Faculty of Education to Business administration, when he gets to 200level. At the end of his 100level second semester his CGPA was 3.05, having concluded that he could transfer he went ahead to do so meanwhile there is a stipulation attached to it that in order for him to be admitted into Business administration his current HOD (Prof. Ife) and DEAN of Education would sign him out of the department so he can be accepted into Business administration by the HOD and DEAN of Management Sciences but if he is rejected he automatically forfeits his admission in the university, he didn't give up but instead gave his consent and moved on forgetting that his deficiency deprived him from entering Business administration in the first place.
Eventually, he was released by his current DEAN and HOD ( Prof. Ife) and decided to move on to management sciences, he waited patiently for the results to be out, Day 1 came no results, Day 2 no results, Day 3 still no results so he went to visit the HOD of Business administration and explained everything to him, shockingly the HOD told him that he can't accept him because of the deficiency in his SSCE results which was told to him earlier on, knowing that his admission is at stake he started pleading with the HOD to accept him but the HOD said "No no no" and even proceeded to say capital letter NO!!! at this point in time Favour was down, depressed and heartbroken knowing that his student ship in the university was gradually coming to an end Favour was stuck between a rock and hard place because at that point in time he doesn't belong to any department and course registration for the forthcoming exam was near and student had started preparation for the forthcoming first semester exam.
The following week Favour proceeded to look for Mr. George, the HOD of business administration close friend in the faculty of Management sciences maybe he can convince the HOD to accept him and give him time to rectify the deficiencies in my WASSCE results, but still insisting, the HOD still said No to his very close friends, at this junction all hope was lost. Then Favour informed his mother about it and she started shouting, crying and sobbing saying " So this is how I'm going to lose my admission, just like that" she asked " Do you want to make me a laughing stock among my families and friends", Favour was also lost in thought and he bust into tears mostly because he didn't know what to do at all, the next day Favour's mum suggested that since the whole matter is like this now they should start praying about it so that God can touch the heart of the HOD to which I seek transfer into his department that there's nothing impossible for God to do.
Few weeks later, Favour was informed that a meeting was going to be held by staffs in Management sciences due to multiple student who were seeking transfer into business administration, they concluded that the department has more that 400students in it and they are looking for few student with a good CGPA who are worthy enough to fit into the department and a particular student emerged with 4.05 and was also seeking for transfer into business administration after being offered a course against his choice, after few weeks of waiting patiently for the outcome of the meeting to see who would be selected, finally it was the student with 4.05 CGPA that would later be accepted, at this junction Favour lost hope totally, he didn't talk to anyone about it, he had no appetite to eat and he was always crying all day because the next step for him to take is to proceed to take another exam and stay at home for another year before he can gain admission again.
Favour's mum finally decided to inform Favour's dad about the whole situation and how it's going when he asked how Favour was doing in school, the dad didn't take this decision likely and blamed Favour for everything knowing fully well that if he wasn't satisfied with the course the university offered him, he should have waited for another year rather than ending his admission just like that, everyone was angry at Favour. They decided to go to the previous HOD ( Prof. Ife) to plead with him to accept Favour back into the department but Favour was against that decision because he didn't like the department as it was against his original field of study and that was why he wanted to leave the department in the first place and if there's anything Favour has learnt in this journey so far, that's to never give up no matter the circumstance/ situation.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, On one faithful day Favour paid Mr. George a visit in his office and told him that he was stuck between a rock and hard place, he didn't know what to do then Mr. George told him to bring his WASSCE results when coming the next day so he would know if he can also do something about it what he can, Favour shocked his head and said "ok sir" respectfully, the next day Favour did as he was told and brought the required document. Mr. George went through the result and noticed that Favour had a B3 in his marketing exam and informed him that he performed well in that particular exam, being a marketing department staff he had no other assistance to render than to tell Favour to write NECO which he would use to replace the WASSCE exam and take a diploma form in Business Administration which is for two(2) years and then use the NECO result to transit into 200level, in other words, Favour thought about it for a moment and said he's okay with the idea and went on to tell his parents about it when he got home, they were also cool with the proposed idea. Two(2) weeks later Favour successfully registered for the diploma programme and started lectures immediately as a diploma 1 student, he had to avoid being sighted by his former course mates in order to avoid unnecessary questions, his introvercy prevented him from making friends in the department.
Favour got introduced to tertiary mathematics and other business related courses, when he saw that he knew he belonged there knowing that was his dream course from childhood, with time Favour got adapted to the learning environment, ethics of business and so on. Favour knew that his hopes of becoming a business administrator was gradually coming to pass and dreams becoming reality, he was later informed by the coordinator of diploma in business administration that the transition into 200level was not just going to happen just like that, it would be based on academic merit which involves a higher CGPA which is also needed for the transition, in other words this diploma programme is also very competitive, Favour made sure he did everything possible in making sure that he increases his CGPA through attending class regularly and marking attendance, doing his research homework, performing excellently well in his continuous assessment and having an outstanding grade in his examination as a whole. After the first semester examination was concluded, all diploma students were no able to see their results being that it would be done manually not electronically since full time students examination results and school related activities are done online and diploma was way different, he still didn't give up; Favour continued and as time went by he got closer to his second semester examination in which was just a month away, Favour still continued studying and trying to prove that he's one of the outstanding student in the department and he has come to stay, on the day of the second semester exam, A week later the examination was concluded and Favour moved on to diploma 2, his NECO results were out and when he checked he saw that he had passed the requirement which he earlier had deficiencies in, he was over excited that day.
Favour then took the spirit he had in diploma 1 into diploma 2 and after the conclusion of the second semester exam backing it up with prayers he was able to transit into 200level with his NECO result; the department he was told he couldn't get in, he was overwhelmed with tears of joy and finally he could once again call himself a "Business Administration student"
