Breakups always seem like something that happens to other people - until it happens to you. And let me tell you, nothing prepares you for the moment when the person you love looks you in the eye and decides you're no longer enough.
It started like any other day. She texted me in the morning: "We need to talk."
My heart skipped a beat. Those four words never mean anything good.
By evening, I was sitting across from her at our favorite spot - a quiet caf where we had shared countless laughs, inside jokes, and late-night conversations. But tonight, there was no laughter. Just silence.
She stirred her drink, avoiding my eyes. Finally, she exhaled and said, "I don't think this is working anymore."
I felt a sharp pain in my chest. "Wait? what? Where is this coming from?"
She looked up, and for the first time, I realized she had already made up her mind. "I've been feeling this way for a while. I just? I don't think we should be together anymore."
I wanted to argue, to ask why, to remind her of everything we had. But the words stuck in my throat. Because deep down, I could tell - she was already gone.
"So that's it?" I finally managed to say.
She nodded. No tears, no second thoughts. Just a quiet, painful confirmation that the person I had given my heart to was walking away.
But that wasn't even the worst part.
To be continued?
