Hello, I'm Brother Steve. I was lost spiritually until God’s grace found me on the Southern University campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I was introduced to the name of God for the first time in my life. By a student name Jackie Elliot. We were in a business class together. She approached me after class.
Jackie said to me, did you know God has a name? I said, I thought God's name was God. She said God is a title not a name. She said God's real name is Yahweh. I said, I did not know that. Jackie said let's go to the library and look up the name. At the university library we looked in a dictionary.
The dictionary stated that Yahweh is the name of the God of the Israelites. I said that is the God of the Bible. Jackie said that is right. I said, that is amazing. She said, would you like to come to Bible class with me to learn more? I said yes. Jackie picked me up and we drove to Bible class together.
When I arrived at Bible class, an usher seated me in the visitor's section in the front of the class. The speaker for Bible class that day was Louis Landers. He explained more about the name Yahweh. Louis said that the name Yahweh derived from the tetragrammaton. The four Hebrew consonants YHWH.
Louis gave some proof about the name Yahweh. He said the letter A was taken from the first man created whose name was Adam. The A is inserted between the Y and H to make the first part of the name pronounced as Yah. The letter E was taken from the first woman created whose name was Eve.
The E was inserted between the W and H to make the second part of the name pronounced as Weh. Louis said join the two parts together to form Yahweh. I thought to myself, that's amazing. I was excited to know this information. By the time Louis finished his lecture, it was time for Bible class to end.
I spoke to Louis after Bible class and told him I enjoyed his lecture. I said I would like to return to Bible class to learn more. But I would be returning home to Chicago for summer break. I said I would miss out on Bible class for the summer. He said, don't worry we have a Bible class in Chicago.
Before I met Jackie Elliot, my faith in God was small. But over time that begin to change. I became an active Bible student. We were 50 + faithful students. Bible class was 3 days a week. We had a small choir. The choir sang inspiring praise and worship songs. The Voices of Joy was name of the choir.
We had regional Bible class conventions. Where we enjoyed lectures, worship music, and fellowship. I really enjoyed my time in Bible class. My faith in God (Yahweh) grew big. I stop living for myself and begin living the gospel life. I was an active member in Bible class for 15 years.
Today, I use the Glorify app to connect with God (Yahweh) for biblical understanding and spiritual enrichment. I appreciate God (Yahweh) for sending Jackie Elliot into my life to tell me about Bible class. And the lecture given by Louis Landers. Both experiences changed my life forever.
