One sunny afternoon, little Meera sat on the warm sand, watching the waves roll in and out. Her chin rested on her knees as she dreamed about the deep, blue ocean. She had read in her book that life under the sea was full of beauty and adventure—dancing dolphins, shining fish, and coral castles.
Nearby, Grandma sat under a beach umbrella, calmly weaving a basket from dried palm leaves. Jambo, Meera’s fluffy dog, napped beside her, ears twitching in his sleep.
“Oh, how I wish I could live down there,” Meera whispered. “Swim with sea creatures and explore the underwater world.”
Just then, the waves sparkled brighter than ever. From the water rose a graceful mermaid with golden hair that shimmered like sunlight and eyes the color of sea glass.
“Hello,” the mermaid said kindly. “I’m Marina. I heard your wish.”
Meera’s eyes widened. “Are you real?”
Marina laughed. “Very real. And I can take you to my world—if you wish.”
“But I’m human,” Meera said. “I can’t breathe or swim like you.”
Marina smiled. “I have magic.”
With a swirl of sea foam and a twinkle of light, Meera—and Jambo too!—found themselves diving into the ocean—yet they could breathe, and swim like fish!
Everything was glowing and alive. Rainbow-colored fish swam in schools that moved like dancing ribbons. Sea turtles floated by like flying carpets. Corals bloomed like underwater flowers, and gentle seaweed swayed like soft music.
Meera clapped her hands with joy. “This is more beautiful than I ever imagined!”
Marina, Meera, and Jambo swam together, playing hide-and-seek with giggling dolphins. They rode jellyfish like bouncy balls and watched glowing plankton light up the water like stars.
Suddenly, a shadow passed above them.
A shark!
Meera froze in fear.
Marina laughed. “Don’t worry. That’s Sharpie, my pet. He’s like a sea pony. Want a ride?”
Nervously, Meera climbed on Sharpie’s back. To her surprise, he was gentle, gliding smoothly through the sea. Jambo paddled beside them happily.
Soon, they reached a grand coral castle, glowing with pearl lights. Inside, a royal feast was laid out: seaweed stew, jellyfish jam, and bubble-bread.
Meera wrinkled her nose. “I’m sorry… I can’t eat this. I miss grandma’s cooking… and my dog, Jambo.”
Marina’s smile faded. Her voice changed. “Oh, but you can’t go home, Meera.”
“What?”
“You’re part of the sea now,” Marina said with a wicked laugh. “Sharpie needs a snack.”
Meera’s eyes filled with tears. “No! Grandma! Jambo! Help me!”
She closed her eyes tight, heart pounding.
Suddenly… warmth.
She opened her eyes—and she was safe, curled up on Grandma’s lap. Jambo, her fluffy dog, licked her hand.
“It was just a dream,” she whispered, holding Grandma tight.
As she looked out at the waves, Meera smiled. “The ocean is magical and full of wonders… but it can also be scary. I love visiting the beach. But home is where I belong.”
