There he was again, walking down the street and she hollers his name! Macky, Macky she calls out to the man! No response, she calls again, and he hears the woman calling this man's name. Not as a joke. Not with laughter. She said the way you say someones name when you are certain it belongs to them. Out of curiousity he turns around and there she is, staring at the man whom is looking and she continues to call him Macky. Confused yet intrigued he decides to walk towards the woman and she begins to converse with him. Clearly she assumes the man is Macky, someone she knows. The man she assumes is not who she thinks he is. The man chooses to play along and see where this will go. She invites him in and they have a friendly time together. A few drinks and boast of laughter filled their afternoon as they mingled into evening and it was time to depart. As the man walked away he turned to look at her once more and she waved goodbye with a shining smile. He waved back and tilted his hat with a slight peak of a his smile as the street light shone upon it for only a mere second for he turned away towards the dark of the night. He walks towards the dark street ahead and there he hears, Macky! She asks, when will I see you again? His reply, by all means milady, tomorrow is not far. Alas she agrees and the invite was placed. Departure took place and he walked into the night not to be seen until slumber was had. Night falls.
A new day is born. The light of the sun softly shines through an opening in the mans curtains as the dust swifts through his room. The warmth of the day starts to creep in and the man slowly awakens. His eyes blurry as he stares at the sliver of light peaking through the opening his curtain portrays. The dust swirls as the man gently rises. Dry mouth and cold toes are his first daily sensations of comforting discomfort. Onward with his slippers and the flick of his lighter to spark his smoke for the sanity of his rising. His mouth dry as cotton with an echo from his cough fills his room with a stale taste of uncertainty. Another drag inhaled as he stands up from the edge of his bed and onto his feet from the sleep of the dead. He walks across his smoke filled room peaking through the sliver and into the day as ponders what happened the night before. Questions fill his mind on the woman he thought kind but knew he was not who she thought he was. For how long do I play this role he thought? Later on I do it again. Shall I tell her? With a shrug he shuffles to his kitchen and opens his fridge for the thirst in his mouth can barely be bared. He reaches for the can and the sound of the crack brings the man his ease. That first sip shifts himself into a familiar state. Beer for breakfast was his go to. The comfort of smoke and beer brings peace into the mans world for it has been displayed many moons into his exisitence. Existence was all he had. Alone and unsure as each day passed. The woman did not even know him he thought but what the hell why not! He finished his smoke and beer and got about into the shower to get ready for the day of his new life! Fresh in is towel he gets together his best flared jeans and rockabilly shirt for the win! Hair greased up like Elvis with his black Daytons polished and ready to go! No number in hand just a memory of where she lives. He walks to his fridge all fresh with his look and cracks open another beer. Slams it to build courage as his nerves blast with some excitement for what could be something dear. There is no need to fear he thought, just go over and see what comes about. He brushes his teeth and flashes a smile in the mirror at himself. Alright it is time to go over and make himself known as the Macky. Another quick comb to his hair for flare and he puts on his jean jacket to spare. Oldspice on his skin and he opens his door to go out into the world once more. As walks down the street towards her home he sparks another dart. Long drags as he ponders what to do in his mind walking towards her world. Not far to go and there is her show, her show of fun and dance! He walks up to her door and stands still for a time. Hesitant to knock he got startled by her voice calling out from her window "Macky?" He looks and there she is. They both smile to one another. Good morning he says and she greets him with the same in return. She opens her door and invites him in to let their story begin. The coffee is brewed. I am really glad you came she said. It has been awhile, I remember how you take your coffee and she pours him a cup with a splash of cream. He don't like his coffee that way but he goes with it and drinks. Into the day they go about with laughter, drinks, smoke, and a party that lasts a week!
A week of Macky! Kitty is her name. Macky and Kitty! All week she called him Macky. Macky, do you want coffee? Macky, you walk like you're thinking too much. Macky, I feel like i've known you longer than this. Macky, want another beer? Macky, are you hungry? Macky, Macky, Macky! They danced. They kissed. They made love. They shared meals and drinks and smoke. The feelings grew and he just knew that he has to tell her the truth.
The next morning came. He did not sleep. He watched her slumber into her deep. He smiled at her with love in his heart and he knew it was time to depart. Depart! Depart Macky and make himself true with his real name to burst her world blue! She woke from her sleep and gave him a hug as she was happy to see him by her side. He kissed her cheek and softly said I have something to tell you. His head hung low and he was prepared to lose what he thought was a blissful show. She tilted her head and asked what is wrong? What do you want to tell me? He placed his hand on her lap and said with a sap he is not who she thinks he is. His real name landed like a coin placed carefully on a table. Her eyes grew large and she blurted out "John"! When the truth came out, it was small and awkward. A laugh. An apology. A sentence that began with, I thought your name was...
But alas it was not! His name was John and John liked black coffee! Up they rose and walked across the floor. She opened the door. Into the kitchen with each hand in hand. His cup empty and she pour. His coffee be black. And Macky no more!
The love story begins. John and Kitty. Macky no more!
