Life, in its essence, is a game - a dynamic, unpredictable, and challenging adventure where each of us is both a player and the strategist. Success lies in how well you learn to manoeuvre through it all.
A Dream Worth Sharing
In the early morning, I dreamt countless people were playing different races and challenges. At one point, a group of us - about eight strangers - needed to cross a narrow path. On one side was a wall, and on the other, an open space with a tiny edge to walk on. It seemed impossible to cross safely.
I noticed a fence hanging down with hooks at the bottom. An idea came to mind: we needed to hook two parts of the fence together to create a makeshift bridge. I shared the idea with the group, and together, we built a path. I stepped onto it first to test its strength, and the others followed. Just after crossing that bridge, I saw the finish line. I ran, crossed it, and realised others were also finishing their races, while some were still playing their games. I also saw my biological sister finish a race just after me, strangely I had also seen her finish a different race before that one.
This dream mirrors life so profoundly:
The Narrow Path reminds us that challenges often seem insurmountable, but solutions exist if we approach them with creativity and determination.
The Fence with Hooks symbolizes hidden resources and opportunities that can connect the gaps in our journey.
Leading the Group reflects the power of collaboration and courage to go first, paving the way for others.
The Finish Line shows that success is personal and unique to each of us. It's not about who finishes first but about completing your race.
Others Still Playing reminds us that everyone's timeline is different. Some may finish before us, and others may still be navigating their challenges - but all of us are playing the same ultimate game.
Each phase of life can be seen as a level in this game. Every level presents unique challenges, rewards, and opportunities for growth. Some levels are tougher than others, requiring patience, resilience, and strategic thinking. The key is to embrace each level as a learning experience, a stepping stone to the next. No matter how many times you stumble, the game continues as long as you keep trying. It's not about how fast you complete the levels but about the lessons you learn and the person you become along the way.
Also, as I ran towards the finish line, I was no longer barefoot as I was in the beginning of the race, I had white running shoes on. The change was subtle but profound. It struck me in that moment - it matters not how you start. You can start from where you are, what matters is how you finish. A journey that begins with uncertainty or vulnerability can still lead to strength and clarity, so long as we keep moving forward.
In this game called life, you'll meet all sorts of people, each playing their own game:
The Helpers: These are the people who genuinely want to see you succeed. They offer guidance, lend a helping hand, and cheer you on. Appreciate them and let their support motivate you.
The Critics: Some will dislike how you play your game, perhaps out of envy or misunderstanding. Instead of letting their negativity derail you, use it as fuel to refine your strategy and prove your capabilities.
The Opportunists: These individuals get close to you to learn your secrets or benefit from your progress. Be cautious and discerning, protecting your vulnerabilities while remaining open to genuine connections.
The Cheerleaders: Celebrate those who encourage and uplift you. Their energy can be a powerful source of motivation when the game gets tough.
The Backstabbers: Some will betray you to get ahead. While their actions may sting, remember that their behaviour reflects their character, not yours. Use such experiences to grow wiser and more resilient.
The Followers: These are the people who trust your leadership and follow your example. Inspire them through your actions and integrity.
The Fun-seekers: These individuals remind you to enjoy the journey and not take life too seriously. Their presence can bring joy and balance to your path.
To succeed in the game of life, you must develop a strategy.
1. Know Your Goals: Define what success looks like to you at each level. Stay focused on your objectives and let them guide your decisions.
2. Adapt and Evolve: Just as games require you to upgrade your skills, life demands constant growth. Be willing to learn from every experience, good or bad.
3. Guard Your Energy: Not everyone deserves access to your plans or your energy. Choose your inner circle
wisely and protect your peace.
4. Celebrate Small Wins: Every achievement, no matter how small, is a step forward. Celebrate your progress and use it as motivation to keep going.
5. Stay True to Yourself: In the end, the game is yours to play. Be authentic and align your actions with your values and principles.
Ultimately, you are responsible for how you play the game and how you get to the finish line of each level. Life will throw curveballs, but your mindset and approach will determine whether you advance or falter. Trust yourself, learn to adapt, and keep moving forward. Even when the odds seem stacked against you, remember that every setback is an opportunity to strategize and come back stronger.
Life is not just about finishing the game but about the impact you leave behind. The way you play - with integrity, kindness, and perseverance - will inspire others to approach their own game with the same vigour. In this way, your journey becomes a part of something greater, influencing and uplifting others in their own quests.
So, play boldly. Play wisely. And never forget: this is your game to win. Everyone has their own race to run. There is more than one race to run.
