"hit it, kasumi" said Erica. Practice was intense. They have been practicing hard all week for next week's game. Kasum spiked the ball as hard as she could. "Great job, kasumi" said the coach. "I'm proud of you girls, you're ready for the volleyball tournament next week" she continued. "Practice over. Hit the showers". Said the coach.
"You were awesome, kasumi" said Erica. "We'll win the tournament for sure" she continued. "Thank you" said kasumi. "Do you need a ride home" asked Erica. "Sure" replied kasumi. "Just let me shower and change first" explained kasumi. "Okay, meet me in the student parking lot" explained Erica.
After showering and changing, she meets Erica in the parking lot. "Hi Erica, ready to go?"asked kasumi. "Sure" replied Erica. They hope in the car and drive out of the student parking lot and away from the school. "How's your baby brother doing" asked Eric. "He's better but still needs a heart transplant" answered kasumi. "When will you visit him in the hospital again? inquired Erica. "Probably tomorrow " said kasumi. "Oh, okay " said Erica. "Have you heard that the government program is this weekend?" Asked Erica. "What if our school is chosen?" She inquired. "I doubt our school will be chosen to fight and kill students of other schools just so the government can keep the population down " replied kasumi. "Still, what if our school was chosen among other schools this weekend" inquired Erica. "I'm skeptical about it " said kasumi. "Okay ".said Erica.
They arrive at kasumi's house. "Bye, Erica. See you in class tomorrow".said Kasumi. "See you in class tomorrow" replied Erica. Kasumi walks up the steps to her house and takes out her keys to open the door. She enters the house and greets her mother, who is waiting patiently for her. "Hi dear. How was school? asked her mother. "It was alright" replied kasumi. "That's good. How was volleyball practice?" her mother asked. " It went well. We're preparing for the tournament next week" explained kasumi. " That's good to hear. Sorry I wasn't able to pick you up from school today".her mother said sadly. "It's okay. I know that you needed to be with ken in the hospital " said kasumi. " How is he doing " asked kasumi. "He's okay for now but we still need a heart transplant " explained her mother. "Okay "said kasumi. "I need to get back to the hospital. I left you some chicken salad in the refrigerator if you're hungry" her mother explained. "Okay mom. Give ken a big hug for me " said kasumi. "I will " her mother replied. Her mother grabs her coat and keys and leaves out the door. Kasumi goes upstairs and lies down on her bed. She thinks about what Erica said. What if their school is chosen for the government program this weekend? She didn't like the idea of having to kill other students, especially those she doesn't know. She trres not to think horrible thoughts. She decides to close her eyes and rest.
Next day in the library at school, kasumi and Erica and their friend Krystal start making plans for the weekend. " We should go see a movie this weekend " said Krystal. "Or we could go to the mall to buy new clothes for spring break" said Erica. "Or we could go roller skating. We haven't roller skated in a while" said kasumi. "That sounds like fun" replied Erica. As the three of them sit and talked about their plans for the weekend, government agents and military entered the school and started forcibly taking students. They enter the library and started taking students. "What's going on" inquired kasumi. "Take these three as well"said one of the agents. Kasumi and her friends tried to resist them and escape but weren't strong enough to do so. Members of the military injects them with sedatives and takes them away out of the school.
They next awaken on a plane. "What happened? Where are we? Inquired kasumi. "I don't know" replied Krystal. They were on a plane with several other students and unaware of what's going on. "I think we have been chosen to participate in the program" explained Jack, a classmate of kasumi. "Seriously? The program? replied Erica. "That would explain why the military was in our school kidnapping students" explained Krystal.
The plane lands on a small island. The students are rushed off of the plane and to a nearby building. They are then met with president kellerman. "Welcome. By now you have probably figured out that you have probably figured out that you have been chosen to participate in the program with students from three other schools, 8 from each school. One of the reasons why we have this program is to keep the population down. Another reason is to control the youth, who are the future of this nation. Now, the rules of the game are simple: you all will wear special vest and use special light guns. You aim the light gun to the signal on your opponent's chest and pull the trigger. If activated, the vest will explode and they will die" explained kellerman. "Any questions"inquired kellerman. "We don't want to participate" said Jack. "Yeah, we don't want to participate." Said Krystal. "We have ways of making you participate " said kellerman. "Take them to the basement " ordered kellerman.
The soldiers took the students down to the basement of the building. They saw their parents in a jail cell. " Here's what will happen: either you all will participate or we will execute your parents. And then execute you" explained kellerman. Not wanting to risks the lives of their parents, they reluctantly agree to participate in the tournament. "Okay. I guess we have no choice but to participate in the program " said kasumi. "Good " said kellerman. "You're kasumi Jackson, right? You're captain of your volleyball team, right?asked kellerman. "Yes" replied kasumi. "Good. Then you can be captain of this team. This is your team. This is your game " explained kellerman. "Okay " said kasumi. "The tournament starts tomorrow morning " said kellerman.
The students are taken to their living quarters.
They are giving fresh clothes to wear and food to eat. They are given a few hours of free time. They are then ordered to go to sleep.
The next morning, they are take to a training facility to practice before the actual event starts. "Okay. We have to come up with Strategies and tactics to win and stay alive" said kasumi. "Any ideas?"asked kasumi. "We should probably have snipers" said eddy, another classmate of kasumi. "Good idea" said kasumi. "Anything else" inquired kasumi. "We should probably analyze the rules of the game as well as analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the other schools to win" said Jack. "I like that plan" said kasumi. " We should probably practice now" said kasumi. They separate into two teams and begin hunting and shooting at each other. Some of them seem to have trouble using their light guns while others have trouble running and aiming and shooting. They practice for the allowed two hours. After two hours, soldiers come and escort them to the battle arena.
"Welcome to the battle arena" said kellerman. Students from the Duncan high school won't be joining us because they decided not to participate so they and their parents were executed, so there will be only three schools participating this year, the first time that this has happened " explained kellerman. "Now, you all know the rules but in guess you don't remember, each captain of each school will be given a booklet that explains all of the rules " said kellerman. "Now at the sound of the whistle, you will run into the battle area and start killing each other. Remember, if you're hit , then your vest will explode and you'll die" explained kellerman. "Good luck". Said kellerman. A soldier blows the whistle and they all run deeper into the battle arena. Students from the wilson high school get the first several kills on Benton south high School while kasumi and her team stay back and let the other schools kill each other but soon the other schools turn their attention to them.
They begin to have a shoot out with wilson high school, with wilson having the advantage. Krystal is the first one to have her vest hit and explode. "Krystal!" Yelled kasumi. "We have to retreat" said Erica.
So they retreat to a nearby building. They run up the stairs of the building, followed by their pursuers. "Take that" said Erica as she aimed her gun and fired at the enemy. But Erica herself was hit and ended up exploding. "Fuck" said kasumi. They reach the top of the stairs and spread out and continue their battle. Both sides take loses. It's finally down to kasumi and the captain of the other school. "You're dead" said Mickey, the captain of the other school. Kasumi runs away while shooting at him. She runs to the rooftop, followed closely by Mickey. They have a shoot out, trying to dodge each other to prevent from being hit. After a long shootout, kasumi manages to outmaneuver Mickey and shoot his vest, causing him to explode. Kasumi stands as the lone survivor.
A helicopter lands on the rooftop. It's kellerman, coming to congratulate kasumi. "Congratulations. You won" said kellerman. Kasumi drops to her knees and starts crying. Kellerman helps her up and helps her to the helicopter. The helicopter takes her to the plane, where she is United with her mother. "As a prize for winning, your brother will get the transplant he needs" said kellerman. "Thank you" said kasumi.
On the plane ride back home, kasumi thinks about the friends she has lost during the program. She thinks about her best friend Erica and how she'll never play volleyball with her again. She also thinks about what if she would have died instead of Erica.
The plane lands at the airport, with people waiting with banners to congratulate kasumi on winning. Kasumi and her mother step off the plane and are immediately interviewed by several reporters.
Overwhelmed by the events that happened, kasumi breaks down crying in front of everyone.
