Emily was only 23 when she went on a summer getaway with her family to the beach. The sun was warm, the breeze playful, and her laughter echoed as she played volleyball near the shore. In the middle of the game, as she leaped to hit the ball, she lost her balance and almost fell—until she collided with a tall stranger standing right behind her. His strong arms caught her just in time.
His name was Jack. She blushed, whispered a soft “Thanks,” and he smiled briefly before walking away.
That evening, Emily stepped into the resort bar, ordering herself a chilled piña colada. To her surprise, Jack was sitting right beside her, nursing his drink, lost in thought. Emily said a casual “Hey,” but he didn’t respond. Just as he stood to leave, his eyes finally met hers.
This time, he smiled. “Hello. I remember you,” he said warmly. Emily laughed and reminded him that he had saved her earlier that afternoon. What began as small talk stretched into an hour-long conversation. She learned Jack was 25, working in London just like her.
For the first time in a while, Jack’s sadness seemed to melt away in her company. As the night ended, they exchanged goodnights and retreated to their rooms.
The next morning, Emily walked to her balcony, sunlight kissing her face. Down on the beach, she spotted Jack again. She rushed down, and they had breakfast together, sharing laughter over coffee and croissants. Before parting ways, they exchanged numbers—Emily from Woolwich, Jack from Romford—and promised to see each other again.
On a chilly night of December 9th, Emily called Jack. He missed the call, caught up in work, and she fumed silently. Minutes later, he called her back, apologizing. To make up for it, he invited her to dinner at The Courtesan, an intimate, dimly-lit restaurant in London.
That night, Emily walked in wearing a bold red top that hugged her curves, while Jack looked striking in a sleek black suit. They held hands across the table, the live music humming softly around them. Dinner was a blur of stolen glances and playful smiles.
By midnight, the restaurant had grown quieter. Jack leaned closer, his breath brushing her lips before finally pulling her into a slow but intense kiss. Their lips locked, and for a moment, the world disappeared—until the room burst into applause from nearby tables. Embarrassed yet glowing, they laughed and slipped out into the cold night, driving home with hearts racing.
Days later, Emily invited Jack to dinner with her family. He arrived in a crisp white polo and jeans, his medium curls slightly tousled, looking effortlessly charming. Emily dashed to open the door, her face glowing as she welcomed him. Inside, her grandmother greeted him kindly, and Jack instantly won everyone over with his warmth and humor.
As he left that night, Emily walked him to the door. Jack pulled her gently by the waist, pressed his lips against hers—soft, lingering, yet cautious because of the family inside. Emily’s cheeks flushed crimson, her heart pounding with desire.
December 18th. Jack invited Emily to a luxury hotel in Central London. They dined lavishly, shared three bottles of Malbec, and laughter turned into whispers as they stumbled into their room.
Jack locked the door behind them. Emily collapsed playfully onto the bed, scrolling through her phone, pretending not to notice the fire in his eyes. Slowly, Jack slid off her heels, kissed her ankles, and traced his lips along her legs. She dropped her phone, heart racing.
The tension grew heavier. Jack unbuttoned his shirt, revealing his toned chest, then tossed it aside along with his trousers. He dimmed the lights until the room glowed in shades of red and gold. Emily shivered as he climbed onto the bed, his hands stroking up her thighs, his lips capturing hers in a deep, consuming kiss.
That night was wild. Passion spilled between the sheets—lips, touches, whispered moans—the kind of intimacy that blurs into timelessness. They made love until exhaustion finally pulled them into sleep.
But the morning brought a cruel twist. At 9:35 a.m., Emily woke to find the bed empty. She heard the shower running and smiled, waiting for him. But when she walked to the bathroom, her smile vanished. The shower was on, steam filled the room—but Jack wasn’t there. He had vanished.
Panic struck. She dressed quickly and ran out, calling him again and again, but his phone was switched off. Heartbroken, she went home and confessed everything to her grandmother. Furious, her grandmother said, “At least you should’ve known where he lived.” Emily broke into tears.
A week later, on Christmas Day, Emily’s phone buzzed. A single message from Jack:
“I’m sorry. On Christmas, I can only say this much… forgive me.”
After that, silence. His number went dead. No calls, no replies.
Emily’s heart shattered. The girl who once glowed with sunshine now spent her days indoors, drowning in regret and unanswered questions, with only her grandmother to console her.
Jack was gone—like a dream that burned bright and then disappeared into the cold London night.
