HIS STAR
EPILOQUE
In the dark and lonely walls of Sun City lived a beautiful and naive girl star. Star was an orphan who lost both parent at the tender age of three, since the death of her parents she has been living with her uncle and his wife. Her uncle MR. Brain and his wife treated her as their daughter until they had their first child, they stopped paying attention to her and gradually her aunty started developing hatred for her, because she feared star was going to share her daughter’s fatherly love and inheritance with her. Just like that twenty years went by, star was now living like a servant in her uncle’s house. Victoria her uncle’s daughter and her mum made life a living hell for star, this was mostly because her uncle was hardly around. Star and Victoria were both about to enroll in university, while Victoria lived a care free life star was made to work for anything and everything she needed and that included her school fees.
star’s uncle being a pilot was about to leave for work, before he left he dropped both allowance and fees for both girls but as he left Mrs. Brain made it clear to star that she wasn’t going to receive anything and that she should go look for a job if she was still planning to further her education. Despite the hardship star remained determined and resilient. Early the next morning star went job hunting.
Star’s POV
Walking down the streets of sun city looking for a job to fund my fees and to take care of myself was one of the things I never imagined myself doing, but life has a funny way of making the lest expected things come through. After walking for more than two hours I got to the gates of a magnificent mansion. The notice ‘’ housemaid needed apply in a person ‘’ caught my attention. I walked to the gate, rang the bell and short man showed up ‘’how can I help you’’ he said. ‘’I saw the notice on the gate and decided to check it out’’ I replied.
Well luckily luck is on your side nobody has come today, just come inside I will let madam know someone is here for the job. He said as he open the gate and let me in then headed towards the main
Mansion .Few minutes later he came out and signaled me to follow him, I followed him inside. I marveled as soon as I walked into the mansion, the inside was even more beautiful and breathe taking. At that moment I got lost in my thought how can a person’s House be this amazing. My thoughts were interrupted by the sight of a woman who sitting across the magnificent living room. Good afternoon ma’am I greeted. ‘’Good afternoon young lady, mark here tells me you are here for the job of a housemaid. So tell me a little about yourself and why you need this job’’. She said. I took a deep breath and began to speak, deep down I was praying that I looked steady and confident. ‘’Once again good afternoon ma’am, my name is Star Benson and really grateful for the opportunity to apply this position. From a tender age I have carefully managed my uncle’s household and I’ve learnt to manage various tasks efficiently, I’m also eager to work to continue pursuing my dreams. The woman whose name was Mrs. Townsend nodded thoughtfully, her expression softening slightly. ’’I see well as a housekeeper our household you will be responsible for cleanliness and organization of the mansion and working here can be stressful so have you ever been in a difficult situation and if you have how did you handle it’’. I hesitated for a moment before answering, well I’ve had to deal with some challenges at home. My cousin and aunt can be quite demanding, but I have learnt to prioritize tasks and manage my time. The woman’s eyes sparkled with interest. ‘’I see, it sounds like you’ve had to develop some resilience in the face of adversity. That’s commendable. We’ll be in touch soon to let you know our decision. Thank you again for coming in today’’. Thank you ma I said as stood up to leave.
Mrs. Townsend’s POV
As she stood up to leave I smiled at her, I must say she is a beautiful girl and she seems determined, resilience and hardworking. Still smiling I started making a mental note of star’s application because I have to discuss it with my sons and husband.
Star’s POV
After living the mansion I headed home, when got near I saw my Victoria and aunt standing in front of the gate and when i got close to them, before I could greet my aunt gave resounding slap that got me off balance, I fell to the looking very confused and surprised. What did I do to earn this brain resetting slap Aunty continued to look me angrily while Victoria just kept on laughing.
Mrs. Brain’s POV
I woke in morning and couldn’t find star, luckily she made breakfast before going to where ever God forsaken place she went. I did my regular morning routine before going to eat my breakfast, after eating went to take a quick nap. I walked pass Victoria’s, she was still sleeping. After sleeping for three hours I woke up and star was still nowhere to be found Victoria was now sitting in the living room watching a movie, she seem not to have notice my presence. Victoria dear, how is your day going I said.’’ Oh good morning mum, it been a peaceful day so far and it seems star isn’t around did you send her on an errand ‘’ replied Victoria. No haven’t seen her either and neither did I send her on an errand. Hope you’ve had something to eat. ‘’yes’’ Victoria replied. We sat for more than two hours and star was still not back, I was starting to get hungry although Victoria wasn’t I could see it in her face. Where could she possibly be since morning, the movie we were watching ended and I suggested that we go outside to wait for her .After Few minutes of waiting we finally saw star coming, I was so angry that didn’t even know when I slapped her and she just fell down a bag of flour. At moment she looked confused. Where have you been I said angrily.
Star’s POV
‘’Where have been’’ my aunt asked angrily. I.I… went job hunting I replied fearfully. ‘’and how did this so called job hunting go’’ she asked. They said they would call me. Good for you but the next time you leave this house without making lunch or without telling anywhere you’re going don’t even think about coming back she warned. I quietly went inside, headed straight to the kitchen and started making lunch. After that Victoria told me go to her room and arrange it then do her laundry.
The next day while was sitting in my room thinking of how my life would have been if my parents were alive my phone rang, it was an unknown number I picked it and it was a woman’s voice. Hello am I onto star, the voice from the phone asked. Yes its star.’’ Well star I am calling to inform you that you have the job and you can start working tomorrow’’. She said. Oh my God thank you so much ma, I will there very early tomorrow. I replied excitedly. Victoria walked pass with looking curiously at me, not long aunt came too. Aunt I got the job and I’m to start tomorrow. She kept quiet for some time then asked ‘’will you stay there, it was when it dawn on me that I have to stay there and I haven’t thought about it like it just didn’t even come to my mind. I think I might stay there, ‘’you think’’ she asked .I didn’t ask. ’’Well if you are going to stay there it is a good thing for us. Just be aware that you have to come every weekend to make our meals, and maybe do the laundry’’. She said with all seriousness.

Star was supposed to resume today and I must say I’m eager to see her which I find kind of strange, the boys cared less. It was almost afternoon when mark came to inform me that star has come. She walked in smiling at me. Star dear how have you been, I asked also smiling ‘’fine ma’am’’ she said still smiling. It’s nice to see you, you came right in time for lunch. Where is Sofia, SOFIA I shouted. Some seconds later Sofia the chef came running down the stairs. ‘’Yes ma’’, she said breathing heavily. Sofia this is Star the new house help, help her settle down than show her around. ‘’okay ma’’, she replied. They were about leaving when the boys walked in. James had a smile on his face as always, Nathan had his face glued to his phone while Sky just stared at us with a frown. I could not read the expression on his face but he seem to have questions to ask. ‘’ hey mum’’ they said together. ‘’is she the one ma’’, James asked. Yes she is the one, her name is Star. Oh hi star he said. Nathan and Sky just went upstairs without saying anything and I was not surprised.
