Two years had passed since that momentous night, since stolen glances had turned into whispered confessions, and quiet longing had set their world ablaze. It was Rohan who gave Aisha the strength to walk away from a toxic relationship that had stifled her growth in every possible way. And for him, he finally stepped away from an unhappy marriage - one built on duty rather than love, where two good people had simply found themselves trapped in a life that never truly belonged to them.
Aisha and Rohan had built something beautiful, something fierce and unbreakable - a love that thrived in stolen hours, in hurried touches, in late-night calls filled with laughter and unspoken yearning.
But even love, as powerful as theirs, was not immune to time.
The city, once their playground, had turned into a relentless machine pulling them apart. Their careers demanded more of them, and life, in its cruel way, had placed them on opposing shores. Mornings turned into endless meetings, nights into lonely dinners. Their love had not faded, but time had grown stingy with its offerings. What once had been passion-drenched evenings now dwindled into fleeting moments - too rushed, too rare, too painful.
Aisha felt the ache of absence more than ever. She would wake up yearning for his warmth, only to be met with the cold side of the bed. She would reach for her phone, only to sigh at the unanswered messages, knowing his silence wasn't neglect but exhaustion. Rohan still loved her; that much she knew. It was in the way he looked at her when they did steal a moment together, in the way he held her hand like she was the only thing keeping him grounded. But love wasn't always enough.
One evening, as the sun bled into the horizon, she met him at their rooftop - their sanctuary. He arrived breathless, the weight of the day heavy in his tired eyes. She smiled, but it didn't reach her heart.
"I miss you," he whispered, his fingers brushing against hers.
"I know," she said, swallowing the lump in her throat. "I miss you too."
He pulled her into his arms, pressing his lips into her hair, inhaling her as if to capture a moment of stillness. But she had made up her mind.
"Rohan," she started, her voice steady, though her heart was anything but. "You're being pulled in too many directions. I see it in your eyes, feel it in the way you rush through our moments like you're fighting against time."
He pulled back, his brows knitting together. "Aisha, don't..."
She placed a gentle finger against his lips, shaking her head in disagreement of his request. She took a deep breath, the pain cutting into her ribs like shards of glass.
"I love you more than words can ever hold. But I can't be another weight on your shoulders. You need to chase your dreams without feeling torn between me and them."
Rohan's grip tightened on her arms. "You are not a weight, Aisha. You are the only thing keeping me sane."
Tears welled in her eyes, but she forced a smile. "Then let me give you the space to breathe."
He shook his head, refusing to understand. "No. We'll make it work. We always do."
"But at what cost?" she whispered, cupping his face. "I won't ask you to choose Rohan. I love you too much for that. But I also love you enough to step aside so you can be everything you're meant to be."
A long silence stretched between them, heavy with unsaid words, with love that refused to break but knew it had to bend. Rohan stared at her, his jaw clenched, pain flickering in his eyes.
And then, as if the universe couldn't bear their heartbreak, the unexpected happened. His phone rang. He glanced at it, hesitation flashing across his face before he turned it off without answering. Aisha recognized the name - his boss.
The call he'd been waiting for. The call that could change his career. And yet, he had chosen her.
A breath hitched in her throat. Maybe she had underestimated their love. Maybe it was not time that stood in their way, but fear. Maybe, just maybe, they were stronger than she thought.
Rohan took her hands, his voice low, yet determined. "I choose you, Aisha.
Not in stolen moments, not in fleeting kisses, but in every sunrise & sunset, every heartbeat. Time isn't our enemy. We just need to fight for it."
A tear trickled down her cheek as she let out a sigh. The rooftop air was thick with unsaid emotions, but in his gaze, she found her answer.
That was the moment when Rohan didn’t hesitate. His hands found her waist, pulling her against him with an urgency that had been bottled up for far too long. His lips crashed against hers, fierce and desperate, tasting of longing, of promises unspoken. She melted into him, her fingers tangling in his hair as she kissed him back with equal intensity.
The city roared beneath them, the world moved on - but at that moment, nothing else mattered. Their love, no longer hidden in the shadows, burned brighter than ever.
And just like that, love in the shadows found its light.
Their adventure wasn't ending - it was only beginning!!!
