Things might have been different if we had never come here in the first place. We searched every possible way to escape, only to find ourselves right back where we started. My name is Sameera. My story might be different - or maybe not. But one thing's for sure: this is a story you've never heard before.
1 week before
"Did you pack all your things?" my twin sister, Priya, asked as she stepped into the room.
"Yep. Did you?" I replied, placing the last piece of clothing into my suitcase and shutting it with a firm snap.
I paused, my hand resting on the handle.
Should I just say we're going on a trip, like we told our parents?
Or should I tell the truth - the real reason behind our sudden plan?
"Are we doing the right thing?" Priya asked, sitting beside me. I took a long, deep breath.
I wish we were never in this situation… unless it was about her.
"There's no going back," I said, holding her hand. She nodded slowly, lost in thought.
We never imagined ourselves doing something like this - something that felt like an adventure but wasn't one. Not really. But here we were.
I loaded our bags into the trunk of the car.
"Be careful," Mom said, cupping my cheeks gently.
I nodded. Pratik arrived with his luggage, face unreadable, his sister Purvi trailing behind him.
"Take care," Dad added quietly.
We said our goodbyes, then started the journey -
toward the unknown,
toward the truth,
toward her.
We are best friends since childhood but not I'm not close enough to them as my schooing had taken different path, and by the time we reached college, I was in whole other state. Life happened, distance happened- and so did silence. Priya is closed to Purvi and Pratik. Coming to him I used to have a huge crush on him in my teenage. The kind you don't admit to anyone - not even your diary. I would read into every look, every word, imagining meanings that probably weren't there. But I grew up, and with time I understood he never saw me that way. Maybe he never even noticed me.
The hum of the engine filled the silence as tress blurred past us. I focused on the road but my mind was wandering around her.
