long time ago in animal land where there was famine (lack of food and water) plants and animals started dying out of hunger and thirst.
One day all the animal called a meeting then lion said first
Lion: we are dying please if anyone has a way we can bring foodstuffs back please kindly speak out
Cat: we are going to ask the birds if they are also suffering like us.
All the animals: that is a good idea
Tortoise: why don’t we go to them and tell them that we are not suffering because may be they are feeding well, then we now tell them that we do not have, we will look like beggars.
All the animals: it is true, what do we do now
Rat: don’t listen to tortoise, so he is trying to say we should die?
Lion: no, he is say that because you know birds like talking too much so let us not disgrace ourselves
Pig: lion let us first try, because when you try you made an attempt.
All the animals: you are right.
Cat: who is going to meet the birds?
Rat: everybody.
Elephant: but anyone that do not follow us will not eat any of it
All the animals: yes!!! Except tortoise
The next day every one dressed up early in the morning and came out of their houses to embark on their journey but no animal had feathers so the decided to stay back.one faithful day rain fell all the animals were happy so the started planting their food.
Every day the animal will go to their farm to work but the tortoise was very lazy so he stayed at home all day. When hunger did tortoise and his family he said to his wife we are going to die hunger if we don’t do something his wife ebele said you are the man of the house you will bring food while I cook so tortoise came up with a plan that was he will go to the animals farms and do at if he is working then take foodstuff or he will steal the foodstuffs at night.
The next day all the animals went to work the lizard saw tortoise and said shut up your mouth, is this only your farm ,is it not for everybody to work so lizard left tortoise.
One week later the animal did a feast for everybody to eat so all the animals gathered together and wanted to eat but it was late so they gave the food to dog to keep it, so in the morning everybody will eat it. that night tortoise sneaked into dog’s house and ate the food and took some home, in the morning all the animals came out and ask dog for the feast but dog said I kept it in my house and I think some body must have eaten it, all the animals were heart broken, lion said I will keep a long stick across this river every animal will pass it and say if I am the one that ate the feast let me fall into this water and die. All the animals agreed, so all the animal passed the bridge and including dog but tortoise was the last and he was shaking as he was walking on it and saying it. immediately he was done say it he fell into the river and died, all the animal said so it is you tortoise next time don’t be greedy.
