Follow me on this journey to know my story, my name is Higo, a single Mom to an adorable baby girl who turned 18, 2 months ago. 18 whole years of all kinds emotions and feeling, 18 of a journey only God knows how we got here, 18yrs of no father figure, 18yrs of desperation to give her a father figure, but at every point, it got messed up and we are back to the beginning.
This is a journey of not just raising a girl child but also raising myself because I had her at 20, dropped out school because I needed to look at after her, with no were to go and no help from anywhere, we began this journey clueless of tomorrow would be.
There were days I felt tomorrow will never come, there were days I felt I failed myself and my future, looking at how much my school mates had gotten, degrees, homes, cars and comfort, I felt less of myself daily, but little lady will always look at me and tell me, "mommy, don't worry, everything will be okay" this words brought me comfort and sadness at the same time. She grew up to quick, I remember the nights we slept on the bare floor while hanging with my then best friend, the sleepless night, the night I cried myself to sleep and shame say mommy, God will give us our own house soon, this words broke me at every point, I mean see my 5yr old on the floor in my arms consoling and letting me know she's here through it all, and I could go ends of the earth for that strong little human.
This is the beginning of a long journey, 18yrs.
Follow me on this journey,I hope you learn something from us as u take you through this bitter sweet journey..
Tomorrow,I will take you through how we survived through that phase..
Welcome to the Diary Of a Single Mom..
My name is Higo.
My then best friend stopped us from using the bathroom, so my daughter and i will shower at 5am in the cold outside, before everyone is awake, I got a job that lasted 7 weeks, I was thankful because I was finally going to be able to raise money for rent and also basic needs. A few weeks into the job, school was on vacation and I took my daughter to stay with my younger sister, because I spend some days at work pending when I finish for the day, and my friend on one of the occasions I didn't return, packed my things and dropped outside and it rained heavily, and everything I owned got soaked, thankfully I got an small apartment and I moved the few things I could get out of all she left outside..
We lost communication.
I moved on and tried out a chance in a relationship again, it was amazing, good support system, and when my daughter came back, she saw him as a father figure, unfortunately it went south, we kept pushing, God didn't fail us. And in 2016, we moved into another apartment, a bigger space with hopes of moving my mom from the village where she spent most of her time pastoring,to town to live with us, we were so excited to have her finally live with us and also have my baby sister move in too, there were other plans God had, a day to Mom's relocation, she had a crisis, she fell and was rushed to a healthcare center and without proper check up, she was given drips through the night, no doctor available, just nurses, next morning she was taken to a hospital and the doctors confirmed and a stroke and made her go into coma..
Me and my cousin and I made it to the hospital she transferred to and met her unconscious, we battled for two days and there was no improvement and she referred to another hospital in the town we lived in (when Nigeria happens to you pray to God for the grace to face it).
We got into an ambulance without an AC and we had to make a 7hr journey, we took turns fanning her throughout, the bumps, the portholes, the scotching sun that made the ambulance so hot because there wasn't any proper ventilation.
God saw us through, and we made it to town, got to the hospital and she was rejected, hospitals were on strike, just a few private hospitals were open and yeap, none accepted her.
I became frustrated, I cried my entire life out, I begged the nurse who came with us to bring her out of the ambulance and lay her on my body, we would sit by the road side until she dies, that was my only option, but she had an option, to call her boss who happens to be an old family doctor of ours.
Part coming tomorrow.
