Death must come for us all. That’s what my mother told me, at least when she stabbed me in the back. She always did everything for a reason, but I never understood why she did that. Ever since she stabbed me on December 4th, 1981, I have been wondering. I can’t move on rest in peace.
My mother's name was Alice Chadwick, and I am her daughter Ruth Chadwick. I had long brown hair, blue eyes, as blue as the ocean and always had a big smile on my thin lips. These features have faded over time, I barely recognize myself in the reflection. If you have ever seen me, I was probably reading a book or writing poetry. My childhood wasn’t a normal one, I was raised to be obedient, veracious and never be indolent. She thought at home, to be a strong woman. I never even turned eighteen. When i was 15, my mother and I fell out and I ran away from home. I started living in the woods alone, the ground was miry and i was as cold as a corpse. Many dark, quite nights I thought it would be my last. But I managed, I learned to hunt and fish, I was never a cruel person, I did what I had to do. I ate their raw flesh and made clothes out of their fell. On my 16th birthday I went to the river to try to fish, but that day i didn’t catch one. Later that day, as it was getting dark, I sang the birthday song that my mother taught me. Shivering a tear slowly came out of my eye. I felt the cold drop of water running down my cheek until it reached my lip. I could taste the saltiness of it, and it made me feel alive. I closed my eyes, then I heard a tree branch breaking, my body immediately twitched. I opened my eyes and turned around; I saw a petite figure standing there as she said my name, I immediately recognized her voice. It was my mother; I thought she was here to rescue me. She looked at me brimming, bright eyes and a smirk on her face, she told me to get up and we walked back to the house which I called home not that long ago. I sprinted to the fireplace and felt the warmth blowing into my face, my body felt at peace. My mother sat down next to me. She was very empathetic, yet i still apologies and explained why I did what I did. She slowly got up and told me she would fix me supper. I sat there smiling and enjoying the moment. As I heard her light footsteps coming back into the room, I thought I would be the best dinner of my life. The next thing i knew i was screaming, as I turned my head around, I saw my mother stabbing a knife into my back. At first glance I didn’t realize it because adrenaline rushed through my body, and she was smiling, like the day she just was announced prom queen.
The light that filled my eyes seconds before went dark. The room where I spoke my first words went dark. Everything I ever knew went dark. As I opened my eyes again i looked down and saw my body lifeless, cold and dead.
I have been reliving this day ever since December 4th in 1981. What could I have done differently if I had stayed in a different part of the forest if I had just run.
