Elif was in the final months of her pregnancy and had never felt so alone in her life. Her husband Mehmet was emotionally distant, always using work as an excuse for his absence. Elif spent her days tending to the garden at their house in a peaceful coastal town, trying to hold on to life as she felt her baby moving inside her. Yet, deep down, she felt a void she couldn’t fill.
One day, a young man named Can, who had recently moved in with his family to the house across the street, greeted her while she was working in her garden. Can was a university student full of energy and sincerity, and his presence brought a bit of color to Elif’s monotonous days.
Over time, their friendship deepened. Can often helped Elif with her garden, shared tips about plants, and had conversations filled with optimism about life. One day, Can brought her a white rose he had grown himself.
“This rose symbolizes resilience,” he said. “Whenever you feel lonely, look at it and remember how strong you are.” Elif smiled through tears, thanking him for the thoughtful gesture.
However, their bond began to stir complex feelings within Elif. Mehmet’s neglect had become unbearable, and she found herself increasingly drawn to the warmth Can brought into her life.
One morning, Can told Elif he was heading out for a walk along the shore. As always, Elif smiled and waved him off. Little did she know, it would be the last time she saw him. As the day passed with no word from Can, unease grew in Elif’s heart. The townspeople banded together to search for him, but hours later, news broke that Can had fallen into the sea from a fishing boat after becoming unwell. Days of searching finally led to the discovery of his lifeless body.
Elif was devastated. Just as she had begun to find hope again, her world was shattered once more. But as she felt her baby moving inside her, she remembered Can’s words:
“You are always strong enough to achieve more.”
Months later, Elif gave birth to a baby boy. As she held him in her arms, tears streaming down her face, she made a decision: his name would be Can. The name wasn’t just a memory—it was a symbol of new beginnings.
Determined to rebuild her life, Elif decided to realize the dream she and Can had once shared: opening a book café. She named it “Can’s Dream.” The café became a space filled with warmth, where Can’s memory lived on. There was a special corner dedicated to his favorite books and framed notes containing his heartfelt thoughts on life.
As the years passed, little Can grew up, bringing joy and energy to everyone around him. Elif was committed to teaching her son the values Can had embodied—love for life, compassion for others, and the courage to pursue dreams.
One day, on Can’s birthday, Elif organized a memorial gathering on the beach. Friends and customers from the café joined her, lighting candles in his honor. Elif read one of Can’s notes aloud:
“The most important thing in life is to cherish the time spent with your loved ones. When you look back, it’s the memories that bring happiness.”
Elif, with tears in her eyes but a smile on her face, thought to herself:
“Can’s love and spirit live on with us. My son is the greatest testament to that love.”
Years later, young Can, now a teenager, turned to his mother and said,
“Mom, we’re living Dad’s dream. You’ve always made me feel his love.”
Elif looked at her son with pride and whispered,
“Your presence is my greatest victory.”
