It was starting to get really late. Everyone wanted to retreat to their tents but it was Tony’s turn to tell a story, and no one wanted to miss out on that, including me. My butt was starting to ache from the log I was sitting on. We were six kids in total, the oldest, Tony, not being over 18.
“It was a very dark and very scary night," Tony began, the firelight casting strange shadows onto his face.
“Six kids were gathered around a campfire, much like tonight. Everyone was fine… until the fire suddenly went out. Silence passed over the group, the crickets the only ones brave enough to make a sound. Aaaaaaaa."
I startled, almost falling off the log.
“One of the girls. Gone. Only a scream left to be remembered by. In the very dim light of the moon, you can barely see the outline of a great monster. Fangs long enough to go straight through you and claws twice as long. Another scream. And another. Everyone… gone, taken. All except one, left to tell the story. And that is me."
There was a part of me that wanted to believe it’s not real. Just made up. But I’ve known Tony long enough to know that every word he said, was the truth.
I checked my watch, 02:45. I desperately wanted to hear another story but I decided to call it a night. Another story for another night.
